Surrealities written by Harry Borgman and has been published by Xlibris Corporation this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004-10-05 with Art categories.

The dreamlike quality of the images is fascinating and the ideas can be very intriguing. Using the photographic medium to create surreal images is most effective as the objects appearing so real tend to fool the minds eye. It must be real, its a photograph of a real object. Very diverse objects and images can be used together to create unsettling results for the viewer. While some surreal images can be created that are very mysterious, many can also have a very humorous aspect to them. To see oversized vegetables suspended in a room or an Ethiopian Coke bottle floating in the sky is abnormal and funny as well.

What is Surrealism? Surrealism (according to Wikipedia) was a cultural movement that began in the early 1920s, and is best known for its visual artworks and writings. The aim was to "resolve the previously contradictory conditions of dream and reality." Artists painted unnerving, illogical scenes with photographic precision, created strange creatures from everyday objects and developed painting techniques that allowed the unconscious to express itself. Surrealist works feature the element of surprise, unexpected juxtapositions and non sequitur; however, many Surrealist artists and writers regard their work as an expression of the philosophical movement first and foremost, with the works being an artifact. Leader Andre Breton was explicit in his assertion that Surrealism was, above all, a revolutionary movement. Surrealism developed largely out of the Dada activities during World War I and the most important center of the movement was Paris. From the 1920s onward, the movement spread around the globe, eventually affecting the visual arts, literature, film, and music of many countries and languages, as well as political thought and practice, philosophy, and social theory. What is Surreal Art? A type of art that employs elements of surrealism and expressed in various mediums. What is Surreal Photo Manipulation? Surreal Photo Manipulation involves transforming or altering one or more photographs using various methods and techniques to achieve desired results specific to surrealism. Depending on the application and intent, photo manipulations are considered an art form because it involves the creation of unique images and in some instances, signature expressions of art by photographic artists. Examples of photo manipulation include retouching photographs using ink or paint, airbrushing, double exposure, piecing photos or negatives together in the darkroom, scratching instant films, or through the use of software-based manipulation tools applied to digital images. There are a number of software applications available for digital image manipulation, ranging from professional applications to very basic imaging software for casual users. The most commonly used software is Adobe Photoshop. About the contents of this book This book contains samples of finished surreal photo manipulation by the artist and author Solomon Barroa.
