Susanne Kriemann Cold Time written by Hilke Wagner and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013 with Historiography and photography categories.

In her photographic projects, Susanne Kriemann takes a research-oriented approach: dealing with archival and forgotten documents in particular is a central aspect to her work. The found photo material then frequently serves as a starting point for her own images. Formal or thematic analogies generate multifaceted layers of association, which address the circumstances in which the historical images were produced, their preservation, as well as their link to the present day--and always also examine her own medium of photography. This publication was created as part of the solo exhibitions "Cold Time" at the Kunstverein Braunschweig and "Modelling (Construction School)" at Arnolfini in Bristol. Even if the exhibitions were organized entirely independently of one another, the joint effort in producing this catalogue made it possible to go beyond simple exhibition documentation and provide a more in-depth view into the work of Kriemann. In a certain sense, this catalogue is connected to the artist's earlier publication entitled Reading Susanne Kriemann (Sternberg Press, 2011), consisting exclusively of texts. Here, however, the main point of the publication is to let the images speak for themselves. Copublished with Kunstverein Braunschweig and Arnolfini, Bristol Contributors Steve Rushton, Yvonne Scheja, Axel Wieder

The Site Residency written by Maria Barnas and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017 with Art, European categories.

The Site Residency (TSR) was imagined as an artists residency that would result in no material production, a program oriented toward the secret world of doing nothing and its consequences. Conceptually grounded in the theories and practices of withdrawal and critical questioning of creation, materiality and objectified artistic outputartistic strategies from the 1960s and 70sTSR offered an escape from rigid institutional structures and gallery/studio-based production. Introduced by Lvia Pldi and with a contribution by the residencys conceptualizer, Sebastian Cichocki, this publication presents visual and textual materials by the residencys three participating artists, Annika Eriksson, Susanne Kriemann and Agnieszka Polska, including literary fictions by ghostwriters who translated their experiences. TSR created the opportunity for various artistic and curatorial processes, fantasies and trajectories to intersect in unique and significant ways and the design of the book follows in this spirit, allowing the thought fragments, notes, stories and poetic observations of the participants to intertwine and inviting the reader into its free-floating conversation.

Susanne Kriemann written by Susanne Kriemann and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016 with Limestone mines and mining categories.

A literal mountain of industrial debris is the subject of Berlin-based photographic artist Susanne Kriemanns second artist book from Sternberg. Now a nature preserve and site of an eco-hotel, the former limestone mining site is located on the northeastern edge of the Swedish island Gotland. Over the course of this compact but lushly illustrated book, Kriemanns portraits of the massive pile of cement tailings at different times of day and under different weather conditions kaleidoscope into multiple images that become almost cinematic. The images are followed by insightful and poetic writings by writers Kirsty Bell, Maria Barnas and media theorist Jussi Parikka and conclude with historic photographs of the industrial site. In her expansive projects, Kriemann investigates issues of historiography, archival knowledge and the connections between art, literature and archaeology. As Bell writes, Waste and ruin, work time and nonwork time, ash and debris, notes, thoughts, experiences. How does material organize itself? From sculpture to mountain; tunnel to camera; sun to furnace; dusk to dustthis project thrives on analogy.

Thirty years of Ä?ổi Má»›i (economic renovation) reforms have catapulted Vietnam from the ranks of the world’s poorest countries to one of its great development success stories. Critical ingredients have been visionary leaders, a sense of shared societal purpose, and a focus on the future. Starting in the late 1980s, these elements were successfully fused with the embrace of markets and the global economy. Economic growth since then has been rapid, stable, and inclusive, translating into strong welfare gains for the vast majority of the population. But three decades of success from reforms raises expectations for the future, as aptly captured in the Vietnamese constitution, which sets the goal of “a prosperous people and a strong, democratic, equitable, and civilized country.†? There is a firm aspiration that by 2035, Vietnam will be a modern and industrialized nation moving toward becoming a prosperous, creative, equitable, and democratic society. The Vietnam 2035 report, a joint undertaking of the Government of Vietnam and the World Bank Group, seeks to better comprehend the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. It shows that the country’s aspirations and the supporting policy and institutional agenda stand on three pillars: balancing economic prosperity with environmental sustainability; promoting equity and social inclusion to develop a harmonious middle- class society; and enhancing the capacity and accountability of the state to establish a rule of law state and a democratic society. Vietnam 2035 further argues that the rapid growth needed to achieve the bold aspirations will be sustained only if it stands on faster productivity growth and reflects the costs of environmental degradation. Productivity growth, in turn, will benefit from measures to enhance the competitiveness of domestic enterprises, scale up the benefits of urban agglomeration, and build national technological and innovative capacity. Maintaining the record on equity and social inclusion will require lifting marginalized groups and delivering services to an aging and urbanizing middle-class society. And to fulfill the country’s aspirations, the institutions of governance will need to become modern, transparent, and fully rooted in the rule of law.

This Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Special Report (IPCC-SRREN) assesses the potential role of renewable energy in the mitigation of climate change. It covers the six most important renewable energy sources - bioenergy, solar, geothermal, hydropower, ocean and wind energy - as well as their integration into present and future energy systems. It considers the environmental and social consequences associated with the deployment of these technologies, and presents strategies to overcome technical as well as non-technical obstacles to their application and diffusion. SRREN brings a broad spectrum of technology-specific experts together with scientists studying energy systems as a whole. Prepared following strict IPCC procedures, it presents an impartial assessment of the current state of knowledge: it is policy relevant but not policy prescriptive. SRREN is an invaluable assessment of the potential role of renewable energy for the mitigation of climate change for policymakers, the private sector, and academic researchers.

Global value chains (GVCs) powered the surge of international trade after 1990 and now account for almost half of all trade. This shift enabled an unprecedented economic convergence: poor countries grew rapidly and began to catch up with richer countries. Since the 2008 global financial crisis, however, the growth of trade has been sluggish and the expansion of GVCs has stalled. Meanwhile, serious threats have emerged to the model of trade-led growth. New technologies could draw production closer to the consumer and reduce the demand for labor. And trade conflicts among large countries could lead to a retrenchment or a segmentation of GVCs. World Development Report 2020: Trading for Development in the Age of Global Value Chains examines whether there is still a path to development through GVCs and trade. It concludes that technological change is, at this stage, more a boon than a curse. GVCs can continue to boost growth, create better jobs, and reduce poverty provided that developing countries implement deeper reforms to promote GVC participation; industrial countries pursue open, predictable policies; and all countries revive multilateral cooperation.
