Türkiye’de Sosyalist Düşüncenin Klasikleri dizisinin ilk kitabı olan Türkiye ve Sosyalizm Sorunları, Türkiye’nin yetiştirdiği en önemli Marksist düşünürlerden Behice Boran’ın temel yapıtıdır. 1968 yılının Mayıs ayında gün yüzüne çıkan bu çalışmada ortaya konan çözümlemelerin kapsamı, derinliği ve olgunluğu, yoğun bir siyasal eylem ateşi çemberinde yürütülen bir çabanın ürünüdür. O günlerin en yakıcı sorunu, sol mücadelede izlenmesi gereken stratejinin belirlenmesiydi. Marksist bir düşünür ve eylemci olarak Behice Boran için bir stratejinin başarılı olabilmesinin en temel koşulu, işçi sınıfının (elbette daima turlu ittifaklar içeren) öncülüğüne dayanmasıydı ve işçi sınıfının onculuğunu, her aşamada anti-kapitalist mücadeleyi de işe katmadan gerçekleştirmek olanaksızdı. Elinizdeki kitap, böyle bir stratejiyi gerekçelendirmeye adanmış, bunun için, 1968’in dünya koşullarını ve Türkiye’nin durumunu, hep ana gelişim çizgilerini gözeterek gözler önüne seren, buna ek olarak da, stratejinin gerçekleşmesi için parti tüzük ve programının nasıl yaşama geçirilmesi gerektiğini araştıran ayrıntılı bir bilimsel incelemedir. Eşsiz bir kafanın, büyük bir Marksist toplumbilimcinin, hem egemen güçlere hem de rakip “sol” akımlara karşı yürütülen çetin bir kavga ortamında ürettiği bu başyapıt, o günler için geçerli Marksist stratejinin doruktaki belgesidir. The present study offers a thorough account of the activities of the radical left in Turkey between 1960-1980 and shows how these formed a major contributing factor to the political instability of the country and the military coups that took place in March 1971 and September 1980. The military coup of May 1960 liberalized political life in Turkey, and a legal leftist movement arose, combining in its ranks social-democratic, trade-unionist and Marxist elements. Many of these were united in the framework of the Turkish Labour Party. The ideological and political struggle within the leftist movement led to a split in the Labour Party and to the formation in the 1970s of several legal socialist parties, each of which adopted its own model of socialism: "Soviet," "Chinese," "Turkish," "Scandinavian," "North Korean." The 1980 military coup terminated the legal activity of the marxist parties. Some merged with the Communist Party, which operated illegally, others sought ways of legalizing their activity in the new political conditions of Turkey.

This book considers the changing perspectives of the radical leftist movement towards the political role of the military in Turkey. Using a textual analysis of different leftist groups, including the Communist Party of Turkey, Ozgur Mutlu Ulus describes the development of the leftist movement in Turkey after the 1960 coup and explains why most leftists chose to encourage a military revolution, which they hoped would bring about the triumph of socialism in Turkey.
