Talking And Testing written by Richard Young and has been published by John Benjamins Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1998-07-15 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

This book brings together a collection of current research on the assessment of oral proficiency in a second language. Fourteen chapters focus on the use of the language proficiency interview or LPI to assess oral proficiency. The volume addresses the central issue of validity in proficiency assessment: the ways in which the language proficiency interview is accomplished through discourse.Contributors draw on a variety of discourse perspectives, including the ethnography of speaking, conversation analysis, language socialization theory, sociolinguistic variation theory, human interaction research, and systemic functional linguistics. And for the first time, LPIs conducted in German, Korean, and Spanish are examined as well as interviews in English. This book sheds light on such important issues as how speaking ability can be defined independently of an LPI that is designed to assess it and the extent to which an LPI is an authentic representation of ordinary conversation in the target language. It will be of considerable interest to language testers, discourse analysts, second language acquisition researchers, foreign language specialists, and anyone concerned with proficiency issues in language teaching and testing.

People engage in discourse every day - from writing letters and presenting papers to simple discussions. Yet discourse is a complex and fascinating phenomenon that is not well understood. This volume stems from a multidisciplinary workshop in which eminent scholars in linguistics, sociology and computational linguistics presented various aspects of discourse. The topics treated range from multi-party conversational interactions to deconstructing text from various perspectives, considering topic-focus development and discourse structure, and an empirical study of discourse segmentation. The chapters not only describe each author's favorite burning issue in discourse but also provide a fascinating view of the research methodology and style of argumentation in each field.

Artificial Intelligence And Intellectual Property written by Jyh-An Lee and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2021-02-25 with Law categories.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become omnipresent in today's business environment: from chatbots to healthcare services to various ways of creating useful information. While AI has been increasingly used to optimize various creative and innovative processes, the integration of AI into products, services, and other operational procedures raises significant concerns across virtually all areas of intellectual property (IP) law. While AI has drawn extensive attention from IP experts globally, this is the first book providing a broad and comprehensive picture from the perspectives of the very nature of AI technology, its commercial implications, its interaction with different kinds of IP, IP administration, software and data, its social and economic impact on the innovation policy, and ultimately AI's eligibility as a legal entity.
