Photographer Dominique Nabokov was raised by her aunt Simone from the age of four, in a detached house surrounded by a modest garden in the French town of Compiègne. Those formative years would be a blend of everydayness?from picnics to car rides in the family?s Deux Chevaux?and of vivid daydreams propelled by her fascination with Hollywood and its stars. After her aunt?s death in 1999, Dominique decided to photograph the house, as it was left, to keep a record of the place where it all began and a memory of the person behind it.00This book follows Dominique?s celebrated Living Rooms series, which intimately portrayed the interior worlds of the cultural nomenclature in New York, Paris, and Berlin, three pivotal cities for the photographer. Photographer Dominique Nabokov has documented the living rooms of well-known Parisians--artists, writers, designers, intellectuals and the occasional celebrity. The rooms vary widely from one another in terms of formality and decor, but they are all equalized under the gaze of Nabokov's camera. Each room is shot simply as it happened to appear on that particular day, without any people. Using discontinued Polaroid Colorgraph type 691 film (which provides a full-color transparency in four minutes), Nabokov does not use special lighting or allow the rooms to be rearranged or touched by a stylist. Published in a limited edition of 25 copies, this elegant boxed volume presents Joel Meyerowitz' masterful color photographs of C�zanne's Atelier and the objects, and includes a photograph signed and numbered by the artist. Some years ago, Meyerowitz visited C�zanne's studio in Provence, and experienced a flash of understanding about his art. C�zanne had painted the walls a dark gray, mixing the color himself. Consequently, every object in the studio seemed to be absorbed into the gray of the background. Meyerowitz saw how C�zanne thus flattened perspective. He decided to take each of the objects in the studio and view them against the gray wall. He then arranged them in rows, and made a photographic grid of five rows with five objects on each row. These photographs are at once marvelous photographic still lifes and an incredible revelation of C�zanne's methods
