Ulserasi mukosa mulut merupakan hal yang cukup sering ditemukan di masyarakat. Kondisi ini seringkali disebut sebagai “sariawan” dan diikuti rasa sakit yang mengganggu fungsi mulut seseorang. Ulserasi (sariawan) merupakan salah satu jenis lesi mukosa oral yang banyak dialami oleh masyarakat, sehingga dokter gigi perlu untuk menguasai berbagai jenis, penyebab, serta tata laksana ulserasi sesuai diagnosis. Terdapat berbagai macam faktor penyebab dan variasi gambaran klinis lesi ulserasi oral, sehingga diagnosis dan penentuan terapi farmakologi lesi ulseratif oral menjadi cukup sulit. Terapi farmakologi harus didasarkan pada faktor penyebab atau faktor pemicu. Beberapa di antara obat yang sering digunakan untuk terapi lesi ulserasi mukosa mulut adalah: antiinflamasi steroid dan nonsteroid, antivirus, dan antijamur. Penggunaan antiseptik kadang digunakan untuk mencegah terjadinya infeksi sekunder, sedangkan pemberian multivitamin diperlukan untuk membantu mempercepat penyembuhan lesi. Buku ini akan membahas mengenai penentuan terapi farmakologi (pemilihan obat) untuk terapi lesi ulserasi mukosa mulut yang sering ditemukan, berdasarkan etiopatogenesis penyakit.
