O dramaturgo José Joaquim de Campos Leão, ou Qorpo Santo (1829-1883), foi dono de turbulenta e agitada vida. Tido como insano, depois alçado à condição de precursor do teatro do Absurdo, a obra desse escritor ainda precisa ser lida, refletida e devidamente compreendida, pois é reveladora de uma estética singular. Qorpo Santo, como observador das relações sociais e naturais, fez questão de registrá-las esteticamente. A sua Enciclopédia ou Seis meses de uma enfermidade traz consigo, em nove volume s, uma espécie de súmula de seu pensamento e de suas ideias. Nessa obra encontramos poemas, aforismos, comédias, projetos literários etc., tudo sem um critério seletivo. Parece-nos que o autor quis, dessa forma, apresentar-nos um retrato do ser humano, realizado com muito humor e sarcasmo. Essa mesma leitura do ser humano também foi elaborada via teatro. Porém, a linguagem teatral de sua época parecia ultrapassada para traduzir o que Qorpo Santo visualizava caótico e absurdo. Para problematizar, pois, a desconexão entre a ação e o discurso humanos, o autor criou um projeto estético, isto é, deu asas à fenomenologia do qaos e fez, assim, com que sua poética se tornasse um trabalho pioneiro entre muitos estilos que surgiram depois.
