This collection offer a series of new essays authored by leading scholars of Latin American and U.S. Latino theater as well as the performance script Mexterminator vs. The Global Predator, written by Guillermo Gomez-Pena. The fourteen essays focus on contemporary Latin American and U.S. Latino plays and performances and challenge the meanings of genre, gender, race, cultural identity, and performance itself in the context of globalization and shifting borders. A partir de tres obras colombianas contemporáneas Sólo como de un sueño nos levantamos de Beatriz Camargo, Cuando el zapatero remendón remienda sus zapatos de Carolina Vivas y Mujeres en la plaza: Memoria de la ausencia ¿Dónde están? de Patricia Ariza, el libro nos introduce en el hecho escénico femenino en Colombia en el siglo XX y en sus diversos hilos dramáticos, desde los históricos hasta los ancestrales. La imagen omitida de la mujercontrasta con la del conocimiento de la mujer guardiana de la ley de origen, sacerdotisa, médica sanadora, creadora, maestra, la de la sabiduría ancestral.
