O livro Comunicação e cultura: diálogos e tensões por trás da cena traz à pauta reflexões sobre o campo cultural nacional. No Brasil das últimas décadas (1991-2016), as relações entre televisão e espetáculos de teatro têm por pano de fundo o entrelaçamento da mídia com as políticas públicas culturais, especificamente diante do uso da Lei Rouanet (Lei Federal de Incentivo à Cultura). Espetáculos teatrais das mais variadas naturezas são mediados por uma relação publicitária com a televisão. Muitos se estruturam em torno do ator de projeção nacional (quase sempre fabricado pelas estruturas midiáticas), tanto para captação de recursos quanto para garantir a divulgação ou a adesão da plateia. A mídia apropria-se dos faze res culturais e lhes atribui valores que devem ser trazidos à luz para serem discutidos pelos agentes sociais que pensam, usufruem dessa cultura, fazem e criam manifestações artísticas por meio dos mecanismos de apoio à cultura no País. A questão que guia esta obra é que uma economia baseada no incentivo fiscal constrói socialmente certos valores simbólicos para a cultura, em uma operação que termina regulando a sobrevivência desse segmento artístico por conta do tipo de significação social que promove. Os meios de comunicação normatizam a expansão de certos tipos de teatro, e a televisão aberta brasileira tem aí um papel específico, produzindo um traço mercadológico que impacta a produção teatral no País.

Multimedia experiments are everywhere in contemporary art, but the collaboration and conflict associated with multimedia is not a new phenomenon. From opera to the symphonic poem to paintings inspired by music, many attempts have been made to pair sounds with pictures and to combine the arts of time and space. Counterpoints explores this artistic evolution from ancient times to the present day. The book’s main focus is music and its relationship with painting, sculpture, and architecture. Philippe Junod draws on theoretical and practical examples to show how different art movements throughout history have embraced or rejected creative combinations. Esta investigación doctoral trata acerca de las caracterizaciones de la cultura y el patrimonio en un corpus mediático entre los años 2006 y 2011. Diversos sistemas filosóficos se ocuparon de esta noción a lo largo de la historia: la cultura como perfección de la naturaleza; la cultura frente a la civilización; la cultura como concreción del espíritu; la cultura como reflejo superestructural de las condiciones de producción; la cultura como parte de esas condiciones de producción y como proceso de preparación para la revolución; la cultura como la totalidad de creaciones y artefactos humanos; la cultura como perpetradora del statu quo; la cultura como parte de la industria, entre otras muchas definiciones. En el corpus analizado acerca del cierre y remodelación del Teatro Colón de Buenos Aires se hallaron diversas caracterizaciones y metáforas, idealistas y materialistas, que se limitaban a concebir la cultura a partir de la nostalgia, como ámbito de luchas sociales o como recurso económico. Desde las áreas de la comunicación social, los estudios del discurso y la hermenéutica de la cultura, y al decir del poeta T. S. Eliot en el ensayo Notes Towards the Definition of Culture, este trabajo también se propuso "ayudar a definir una palabra, la palabra 'cultura'".
