Beale, professor in King's College, distinguished himself in microscopic anatomy, especially in the study of bipolar cells of ganglia. In pathology he considered the contagia to be living particles of an organism (bioplasts), which plant themselves upon another organism and multiply within the latter. -- H.W. Orr.

The First International Conference on Computational Methods (ICCM04), organized by the department of Mechanical Engineering, National University of Singapore, was held in Singapore, December 15-17, 2004, with great success. This conference proceedings contains some 290 papers from more than 30 countries/regions. The papers cover a broad range of topics such as meshfree particle methods, Generalized FE and Extended FE methods, inverse analysis and optimization methods. Computational methods for geomechanics, machine learning, vibration, shock, impact, health monitoring, material modeling, fracture and damage mechanics, multi-physics and multi-scales simulation, sports and environments are also included. All the papers are pre-reviewed before they are accepted for publication in this proceedings. The proceedings will provide an informative, timely and invaluable resource for engineers and scientists working in the important areas of computational methods.

An Open Design For Computer Aided Algorithmic Music Composition written by Christopher Ariza and has been published by Universal-Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005 with Computers categories.

This dissertation introduces a new design for a computer-aided algorithmic music composition system. Rather than exploring specific algorithms, this study focuses on system and component design. The design introduced here is demonstrated through its implementation in athenaCL, a modular, polyphonic, poly-paradigm algorithmic music composition system in a cross-platform interactive command-line environment. The athenaCL system offers an open-source, object-oriented composition tool written in Python. The system can be scripted and embedded, and includes integrated instrument libraries, post-tonal and microtonal pitch modeling tools, multiple-format graphical outputs, and musical output in Csound, MIDI, audio file, XML, and text formats. Software design analysis is framed within a broad historical and intertextual study of the themes, approaches, and systems of computer-aided algorithmic composition (CAAC). A detailed history of the earliest experiments, as well as analysis of the foundational CAAC systems, is provided. Common problems and interpretations of CAAC are then presented in a historical and intertextual context, drawn from the writings and systems of numerous composers and developers. Toward the goal of developing techniques of comparative software analysis, a survey of system design archetypes, based on seven descriptors of CAAC systems, is presented. With this foundation, athenaCL system components are analyzed in detail. System components are divided into abstractions of musical materials, abstractions of musical procedures, and system architecture. For each component, object models, Python examples, and diagrams are provided. Further, each component is given context in terms of its compositional implications and relation to alternative and related models from the history of CAAC.

The four volumes of the "Virtual Airplane" series will teach you how to create the model shown on the cover. This guide assumes that you may know nothing about the 3D modeling software, so it starts the course from the very basics. In subsequent chapters the author builds a computer model of the P-40B fighter, gradually introducing new methods and tools. Every step of this workflow is shown in numerous illustrations. This third volume ("Materials and Textures") describes how to "paint" a 3D model of a historical aircraft. It introduces the Reader to the core concepts, then gradually enhances the initial result into a realistic visualization. You can learn here how to use for this purpose a popular, Open Source programs: Blender, Inkscape and the GIMP.
