"Text and Technology" focuses on three major areas of modern linguistics: discourse analysis, corpus-driven analysis of language, and computational linguistics. The volume starts off with a description of the various British traditions in text analysis by Michael Stubbs. The first section Spoken and Written Discourse contains contributions by Martin Warren, Mohd Dahan Hazadiah., Amy B.M. Tsui, Anna Mauranen and Susan Hunston. The next section on corpus-driven analysis Corpus Studies: Theory and Practice contains contributions by Gill Francis, Bill Louw, Allan Partington, Elena Tognini-Bonelli. The contributions in this section by Kirsten Malmkjaer and Mona Baker deal specifically with translated text. The final third section Text and Technology: Computational Tools has contributions by David Coniam, Jeremy Clear, Junsaku Nakamura, Geoff Barnbrook and Margaret Allen. In spite of the specialised nature of the topics discussed and the level of sophistication with which these topcis are handled, the papers are written in a clear and accessible style and will therefore be of interest to seasoned scholars and students alike. An extensive index further enhances the value of this collection as a reference point for many of the issues that currently lie at the heart of modern linguistics enquiry

This anthology brings together over a dozen articles published by David Nimmer over the past decade regarding copyright, together with updated commentary weaving together the various threads running through them. The unifying theme running through the work is the need to reconcile standards in order to protect that most ethereal creation of mankind: the written word. From that unique vantage point the discussion delves into the religious roots and sacred character of the act of creation. Religion and copyright are brought into resonance as issues from one field are deployed to illuminate those in the other. Given its culminating focus on the Digital Millennium Copyright Act this work of necessity drills deeply into current advances in technology, notably the dissemination of works over the internet. The religious perspective shines an unexpected light onto those issues as well.

Google Translate is a multilingual translation service provided by Google. It allows users to translate words, phrases, and entire documents between multiple languages. The service was launched in April 2006 and has since been constantly updated to provide more accurate translations. Initially offering translations in only two languages, Google Translate now supports over 100 languages. The translation process works by analyzing the text or document input by the user, breaking it up into smaller segments, and then using statistical algorithms to match these segments with translations from its database. Google Translate has been a helpful tool for people to communicate across different languages, whether it be for business or personal use. However, it must be noted that automated translations often carry a high risk of inaccuracies due to the complexities inherent in language and the nuances of different cultures and contexts. It is always recommended to use translations as a starting point, and then have a native speaker review and refine the language to ensure accuracy.

Writing Technology written by Christina Haas and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-11-05 with Language Arts & Disciplines categories.

Academic and practitioner journals in fields from electronics to business to language studies, as well as the popular press, have for over a decade been proclaiming the arrival of the "computer revolution" and making far-reaching claims about the impact of computers on modern western culture. Implicit in many arguments about the revolutionary power of computers is the assumption that communication, language, and words are intimately tied to culture -- that the computer's transformation of communication means a transformation, a revolutionizing, of culture. Moving from a vague sense that writing is profoundly different with different material and technological tools to an understanding of how such tools can and will change writing, writers, written forms, and writing's functions is not a simple matter. Further, the question of whether -- and how -- changes in individual writers' experiences with new technologies translate into large-scale, cultural "revolutions" remains unresolved. This book is about the relationship of writing to its technologies. It uses history, theory and empirical research to argue that the effects of computer technologies on literacy are complex, always incomplete, and far from unitary -- despite a great deal of popular and even scholarly discourse about the inevitability of the computer revolution. The author argues that just as computers impact on discourse, discourse itself impacts technology and explains how technology is used in educational settings and beyond.

Global And Organizational Discourse About Information Technology written by Eleanor H. Wynn and has been published by Springer this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-06-29 with Business & Economics categories.

Over the past 20 years, the field of information systems has grown dramatically in theoretical diversity and global reach. This growth is reflected in the language that policy makers and organizational stakeholders use when they talk about their IT plans. As information technology penetrates further into organizational and global life, it becomes ever more important to articulate assumptions embedded in the discourse. This will help to clarify the complex and yet conceptually improvised or pasted-up worldview that becomes embodied in systems. The assumptions point to particular domains of discourse. The discourse sets up conventions and boundaries. It thus shapes what can or cannot legitimately be talked about, researched, addressed, or solved within the scope of IT. A number of practical and theoretical topics are discussed in detail, including: *Globalization, development, and space; *Mobilization of power; *ERP systems; *IS planning and projects; *Critical research and the study of discourse; *Public institutions; *Analytical frameworks. This book contains the selected proceedings of the Working Conference on Global and Organizational Discourse About Information Technology, sponsored by the International Federation for Information Processing (IFIP) and held in Barcelona, Spain in December 2002.
