Miguel Pérez ensaya en este trabajo una metodología nueva para la lectura del evangelio de Marcos partiendo de la constatación de que el relato evangélico está compuesto por escenas que son, con gran frecuencia, representación de textos o historias del Antiguo Testamento. El primer paso del método es presentar la estructura escenográfica del texto evangélico, para buscar después, en un segundo paso, los textos fuente del Antiguo Testamento que se escenifican. El tercer paso es la relectura del pasaje evangélico en el macrotexto del evangelista y del Nuevo Testamento a la luz de los textos fuente. Un cuarto paso lo aportan los textos contextuales de la literatura extrabíblica, especialmente los judíos (Qumrán, Apócrifos, Misnah, Tosefta, Talmud, Midrasim, Filón, Flavio Josefo, etc.), pero sin olvidar otros textos contextuales secundarios como los de la literatura helenístico-romana. Finalmente, el último paso es una relectura donde sintéticamente se ofrece la singularidad, confluencia y diferencias del texto evangélico y sus textos fuente y contextuales.

Haced discípulos pretende profundizar en el tema del discipulado en el evangelio de Mateo a la luz del discipulado que encontramos en la literatura rabínica. Ambos movimientos beben de la tradición veterotestamentaria y convergen históricamente en el tiempo: mientras se está escribiendo el evangelio de Mateo, está naciendo históricamente el discipulado rabínico. De esto da testimonio el mismo evangelio al presentar de forma explícita el discipulado de Jesús en contraste con el discipulado rabínico (Mt 8,18-22; 23,8-10), aunque este hilo conductor recorrerá implícitamente todo el relato mateano. La expresión común en ambas literaturas haced discípulos, que da nombre a nuestra obra, refleja cómo la institución discipular aparece al servicio de la transmisión de la tradición del maestro. Sin embargo, la identidad de los maestros y del Maestro, hará que ambos tipos de discipulado se sitúen en planos existenciales y teológicos totalmente diferentes.
