From Christian libertarian farmer Joel Salatin, a clarion call to readers to honor the animals and the land, and produce food based on spiritual principles. What on earth is The Marvelous Pigness of Pigs? It's an inspiring call to action for people of faith . . . a heartfelt plea to heed the Bible's guidance . . . . It's an important and thought-provoking explanation of how by simply appreciating the marvelous pigness of pigs, we are celebrating the Glory of God. As a man of deep faith and student of the Bible, and as a respected and successful ecological family farmer, Joel Salatin knows that God created heaven and earth and meant for all living organisms to be true to their nature and their endowed holy purpose. He intended for us to respect and care for His gift of creation, not to ravage and mistreat it for our own pleasure or wealth. The example that inspires the book's title explains what Salatin means: when huge corporate farms confine pigs in cramped and dark pens, inject them with antibiotics and feed them herbicide-saturated food simply to increase profits, they are not respecting them as a creation of God or allowing them to express even their most rudimentary uniqueness - that special role that is part of His design. Every living organism has a God-given uniqueness to its life that must be honored and respected, and too often that is not happening today. Salatin shows us the long overlooked ethics and instructions in the Bible for how to eat, how to shop, how to think about how we farm and feed the world. Through scripture and Biblical stories, he shows us why it's more vital than ever to look to the good book rather than corporate America when feeding the country and your family. Salatin makes a compelling case for Christian stewardship of the earth and how it relates to every action we take regarding our food. He also opens our eyes to a common misconception many Christians may have about environmentalism: it's not a bad thing, and definitely not just the province of secular liberals; it's really a very good thing, part of heeding God's Word. With warmth and with humor, but with no less piercing criticism of the industrial food complex, Salatin brings readers on a fascinating journey of farming, food and faith. Readers will not say grace over their plates the same way ever again.

Pigs written by Johanna Stoberock and has been published by Red Hen Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-10-01 with Fiction categories.

A dark, dystopian novel from the author of City of Ghosts. Four children live on an island that serves as the repository for all the world’s garbage. Trash arrives, the children sort it, and then they feed it to a herd of insatiable pigs: a perfect system. But when a barrel washes ashore with a boy inside, the children must decide whether he is more of the world’s detritus, meant to be fed to the pigs, or whether he is one of them. Written in exquisitely wrought prose, Pigs asks questions about community, environmental responsibility, and the possibility of innocence. Featured on TODAY with Hoda and Jenna, as recommended by Read With Jenna book club author Megha Majumdar “A lyrical, enthralling, and dark-inflected allegory, equal parts Italo Calvino, Angela Carter, and Lord of the Flies.” —Jonathan Lethem, award-winning author of The Arrest “Powerful, metaphorical, as fantastical as it is true . . . a masterpiece. Stoberock scrutinizes mankind’s failure to tend to our planet, our children, and our fellow man, and the result is a terrifying, tremendous book, its darkness lit in unpredictable ways by campfires of compassion and hope. What a wise, searing novel for the twenty-first century.” —Sharma Shields, author of The Cassandra “Pigs looks unflinchingly at some of the scariest parts of our world—a changing climate, an ocean full of garbage, and us, the fragile animals. Yet within this, there is tremendous beauty and grace—Johanna Stoberock has written a kind of love song to survival, to life itself.”—Ramona Ausubel, author of Awayland

God Of The Pig Pen written by M. Christine Stephens and has been published by Xulon Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2018-02-13 with Family & Relationships categories.

This book was written in tremendous respect and love for our Lord. A savior who is willing to get his feet muddy, His hands dirty and His back bloody to meet us where we are, even if that is a pig pen of our own doing. He is the God of everything and everywhere and He pursues us where ever we go, the King of all eternity comes for us, no matter what the cost. I want this book to say thank you and I love you more than I could ever say. I was raised Roman Catholic and despite all the ritual, rules and religiosity, praying to the dead and dead works, I learned something about a God up there somewhere and a Jesus who died on a cross for me, and I am forever grateful for that. I didn't know His true nature back then, because what I was taught about Him way back then is that He was cold, distant, angry and disapproving. When I came to know Him, I realized that He is none of those things. He loved me when I didn't care about Him. He chased me when I ran away from Him, He gave to me more mercy and grace than I ever deserved and this Amazing Father of mine bent low, despite all of His majesty, and met me in a pig pen. How ever do I say thank you for that? I hope you love the stories here, and if you don't already know Him, I hope you meet Him in these pages. Thank you for reading this book. I am thankful to Him that He used me to write it, and I hope I gave Him all the honor He deserves in these chapters.

Called "elegantly, starkly beautiful" by "The New York Times Book Review, The Siege" is Dunmore's masterpiece. Her canvas is monumental--the Nazi's 1941 winter siege on Leningrad that killed 600,000--but her focus is heartrendingly intimate.
