Nietzsche's metaphor of the spider that spins its cobweb expresses his critique of the metaphysical use of language - but it also suggests that ‟we, spiders‟, are able to spin different, life-affirming, healthier, non-metaphysical cobwebs. Peter Bornedal provides an interpretation of Nietzsche’s philosophy as a whole in the context of 19th century philosophy of mind and cognition. The study explains Nietzsche’s notion of truth; his epistemology; his notions of the split and fragmented subject, of master, slave, and priest; furthermore, it offers a new interpretation of the enigmatic “eternal recurrence”. It also suggests how important aspects of Nietzsche’s thinking can be read as a sophisticated critique of ideology. From studies in Nietzsche’s work as a whole, not least in his so-called Nachgelassene Fragmente, the book reconstructs aspects of Nietzsche’s thinking that have largely been under-described in especially the Anglo-Saxon Nietzsche-reception. The study makes the case that Nietzsche in his epistemology, his psychology, and his cognitive theory is responding to several scientific discoveries occuring during the 19th century. Read within the context of contemporary cognitive-psychological-evolutionary debates, Nietzsche’s philosophy is seen as far more scientistic, and far less poetical-metaphysical, than it has in recent reception-history been received.

Nietzsche's Anthropic Circle is an internal analysis and interpretation of Nietzsche's critical uncovering of "anthropomorphic truth" in language and science, as well as his later use of anthropic analogies and transferences in his imaginative perspectival interpretation "a hybrid of art and science" of a universal, immanent "will to power" in nature. Both the relationship of Nietzsche to Kant's analysis of knowledge in the Critique of Pure Reason and his absorption of a dynamic theory of nature are explored in some detail. A crucial distinction between Nietzsche's perspectival concept of knowledge and perspectival interpretation is thoroughly discussed against the background of recurring analyses of his critique of knowledge and truth. It is shown that instrumental fictionalism was adopted by Nietzsche in order to put in question the pure objectivism of science. This links an aspect of his thought to the domain of recent American philosophy of science. The anticipatory relationship between Nietzsche's proto-structuralist analysis of language and recent linguistic structuralism, as well as his affiliation with evolutionary epistemology is explored. In the concluding portion of this inquiry it is contended that Nietzsche's psychology of a will to power in human drives, thought and behavior is at least theoretically defensible. However, it must be segregated from the extension of a will to power to the cosmos. There is a strong concluding argument offered that seeks to demonstrate that the so-called 'metaphysics' of the will to power is an artfully constructed, exoteric fable designed to retrieve a sense of the humanization of the world in face of a de-anthropomorphic world picture. George Stack is Professor Emeritus of Philosophy at the State University College of NewYork at Brockport, and the author of several books dealing with the philosophy of Friedrich Nietzsche.

Human, All Too Human by German philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche was first published in 1878. It is a collection of aphorisms, ranging in length from a few words to a few pages. A second (Miscellaneous Maxims And Opinions) and a third part (The Wanderer And His Shadow) were published over the next couple of years and were first published as a three volume set. This was changed to a 2 volume edition in 1886. This edition includes all three parts. The first book is split into nine sections: Of First and Last Things (dealing with the subject of metaphysics); On the History of Moral Feelings (discusses and challenges the idea of Christian good and evil); From the Soul of Artists and Writers (where Nietzsche dismisses the concept of divine inspiration); Signs of Higher and Lower Culture (in which he criticises Charles Darwin and the survival of the fittest theory); Man in Society and Women and Child (discusses the nature of men, women, and children); Man Alone with Himself (a collection of mostly short aphorisms). Like most of his books, Human, All Too Human didn't sell well during Nietzsche's lifetime - only selling 120 copies when it was first printed. Another fact about the book is how it was taken on board by an archivist and Hitler supporter called Max Oehler, who saw it as evidence of Nietzsche's support for anti-Semitism, which Nietzsche actually wrote against in other works such as Thus Spoke Zarathustra and The Antichrist.
