While most of us live in cities clinging to the coastal fringe, our sense of what an Australian is, or should be, is drawn from the vast and varied inland called the bush. But what do we mean by 'the bush', and how has it shaped us? Starting with his forebears' battle to drive back nature and eke a living from the land, Don Watson explores the bush as it was and as it now is- the triumphs and the ruination, the commonplace and the bizarre, the stories we like to tell about ourselves and the national character, and those we don't. A milestone work of memoir, travel writing and history, The Bush takes us on a profoundly revelatory and entertaining journey through the Australian landscape and character.

The Toll Of The Bush written by William Satchell and has been published by Auckland University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-10-01 with Literary Criticism categories.

First published in 1905, The Toll of the Bush is widely regarded as William Satchell's best work. Set in the Hokianga district in the early twentieth century, it is an engaging portrayal of pioneer farming and trading on that lonely margin between sea and bush, where jealousies and intrigues punctuate the lives of the heroes and heroines. Above all, the brooding forest watches and waits to exact its toll on those who have sought to tame it. Kendrick Smithyman's introduction brings out a parallel, in the fusion of the legendary elements and a colonial setting, with Nathaniel Hawthorne.

A Life In The Bush written by Roy MacGregor and has been published by Penguin this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-09-08 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Winner of The CAA–Birks Family Foundation Award for Biography The 2000 Ottawa-Carlton Book Award The (U.S.) Rutstrum Award for Best Wilderness Book In 1929, at the age of twenty-two, Duncan MacGregor, the son of a lumberman, great-grandson of a voyageur, and an avid reader and baseball fan, headed off into the largest tract of preserved bush in the world: Ontario’s Algonquin Park. When he got there, he was home for the rest of his life. From the true nature of fishing to the harsh realities of raising a family in the woods, from the role of fear in the bush to the small nuances of family relationships, A Life in the Bush is painted on a canvas both vast and richly detailed. A story that captures the tough physical demands, the rich life of the senses, and the unselfconscious freedom that comes from living apart from town and city. In this beautifully crafted memoir of his father, Roy MacGregor paints an intimate portrait of an unusual man and spins a spellbinding tale of a boy’s complex relationship with his father. He also evokes, perhaps for the first time in Canadian literature, the bush the way bush people see it, an insider's view of life in the totemic Canadian wilderness.

The Boy In The Bush written by D. H. Lawrence and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2002-04-11 with Fiction categories.

This is the first critical edition of The Boy in the Bush, a novel whose unlikely genesis has been surrounded in mystery and the subject of claim and counter-claim. A systematic study of all the extant textual documents has revealed a process of composition and revision which qualifies the novel to be treated unequivocally as part of the Lawrence canon. At Lawrence's suggestion an Australian nurse and part-time author, Mollie Skinner (whom he had met in 1922), wrote a tale set in late nineteenth-century Western Australia about a newly-arrived young Englishman's reactions to Perth and the outback. Lawrence's complete rewriting converted her production into an ambitious, powerful novel. The reading text here established eliminates all such instances of censorship and strips away the thousands of regularisings and miscopyings introduced by typists and typesetters. Based on Lawrence's autograph manuscript the text meticulously incorporates his subsequent revisions in the typescripts and proofs.

The Bush Diaries written by Jack Nargundkar and has been published by iUniverse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2005-07 with United States categories.

[A]fter seeing their Iraq strategy unravel, North Korea get ignored, and the state of Palestine remain a wishful dream-I would dare say that the Bush Administration's foreign policy also needs substantive tuning. In the ultimate, if U.S. foreign policy is made more consistent with our core values, and the Bush Administration uses traditional diplomacy to further policy goals, its Second Term might turn out to be a memorable "American Intifada"! The Bush Diaries captures the true meaning of "freedom and democracy" by allowing an average American citizen to be heard. Author Jack Nargundkar comments, in real time, on the performance of not only President Bush, but also the pundits in the media who evaluate the presidency. The Wall Street Journal editorialized that the Bush economy had performed in a stellar fashion in 2002. The facts indicated something quite to the contrary-thus began Nargundkar's next couple of years of furious letter writing. Largely based on those letters as well as articles submitted to The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, and The New York Times, The Bush Diaries is a chronicle of Nargundkar's views of the George W. Bush era from 2001 to 2005.
