The Open Work written by Umberto Eco and has been published by Harvard University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1989 with Art categories.

This book is significant for its concept of "openness"--the artist's decision to leave arrangements of some constituents of a work to the public or to chance--and for its anticipation of two themes of literary theory: the element of multiplicity and plurality in art, and the insistence on literary response as an interaction between reader and text.

A career retrospective of poetry and prose works by one of the under-recognized giants of French literature André du Bouchet, a great innovator of twentieth-century letters, has yet to be fully recognized by a wide circle of international readers. This inviting volume sets out to remedy the oversight, introducing a selection of du Bouchet's poetry and prose to English-language readers through the brilliant translations of Paul Auster and Hoyt Rogers. Openwork showcases pieces from the author's entire trajectory, beginning with little-known pieces from the 1950s, followed by major poems from the 1960s, and concluding with works written or rewritten in the poet's later decades. Throughout his life, du Bouchet devoted himself to long walks in his beloved French countryside, jotting down entries in notebooks as he rambled. These notebooks--more than one hundred all together--have emerged as signal works in their own right, and their musings are well represented in this anthology.

Every day in Mumbai 5,000 dabbawalas (literally translated as "those who carry boxes") distribute a staggering 200,000 home-cooked lunchboxes to the city's workers and students. Giving employment and status to thousands of largely illiterate villagers from Mumbai's hinterland, this co-operative has been in operation since the late nineteenth century. It provides one of the most efficient delivery networks in the world: only one lunch in six million goes astray. Feeding the City is an ethnographic study of the fascinating inner workings of Mumbai's dabbawalas. Cultural anthropologist Sara Roncaglia explains how they cater to the various dietary requirements of a diverse and increasingly global city, where the preparation and consumption of food is pervaded with religious and cultural significance. Developing the idea of "gastrosemantics" - a language with which to discuss the broader implications of cooking and eating - Roncaglia's study helps us to rethink our relationship to food at a local and global level.

As the struggle against neoliberalism becomes ever more global, Just Work will be the definitive book on the growing social and political power of one its major forces: migrant labor. From trade unions in South Africa to resistance in oppressive Gulf states, migrating forest workers in the Czech Republic, and illegal workers' organizations in Hong Kong, Just Work brings together a wealth of lived experiences and frontline struggles for the first time. Highlighting developments in the wake of austerity and attacks on traditional forms of labor organizing, the contributors show how workers are finding new and innovative ways of resisting. The result is both a rich analysis of where the movement stands today and a reminder of the potentially explosive power of migrant workers in the years to come.

Transnational Perspectives On The Art Of Piero Manzoni And H Lio Oiticica written by Lara Demori and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-08-26 with Art categories.

Establishing a ‘missed link’ between the work of Piero Manzoni and Hélio Oiticica and their respective cultural contexts, this book sheds new light on overlooked aspects of these two artists’ practices, particularly focusing on the shift from painting to performance in the long 1960s. Lara Demori envisions a transnational juxtaposition, a conceptual dialogue that discloses overlooked resonances between the work and the modus operandi of both artists, repositioning claims of national exceptionalism within a web of constellated practices. This book proposes their oeuvre as heterogeneous critical models to unpack categories of thought used to analyse the postwar decades: Tabula Rasa, Anti-Art, Open Work, and (self-)Marginalisation and Freedom. These, in turn, are charged with specific histories and offer new paradigms for the formal and social inventions perpetuated by the art of Manzoni, Oiticica, and fellow artists in the context of the détournements that crossed the 1960s on a global scale. This book will be of interest to scholars working in art history, modernism and post‐modernism, Italian studies, and Brazilian studies.
