The ABCs of TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) is a collection of poems chronicling the life, challenges, and random thoughts of author Alex Schreer, a person living with a traumatic brain injury. Presented in alphabetical order, this compilation offers two poems for each letter of the alphabet. The poems are arranged with a disciplined approach to rhythm and rhyme that has helped Schreer peer through the fog of his injury and come up with a clearer understanding of what it takes to deal with a life-altering accident. Schreer was encouraged by these words by Wendell Barry, I have been wakeful at night, and words have come to me out of their deep caves needing to be remembered. He fervently hopes that his words will illuminate the pathway to recovery for TBI victims and their families through poetry. This very personal collection seeks to provide a better understanding of living life with a traumatic brain injury. No matter where or with whom Tears are constantly falling Which signifies gloom and doom With only sorrow to bring. And so the sadness is brought Rarely, good eer comes from it Try and try, they cannot be caught To have a fire, must get lit

Background and Purpose: The Activities-specific Balance Confidence (ABC) Scale is recommended as the primary outcome measure to measure and track changes in balance confidence for individuals with neurological conditions. However, there is a lack of psychometric data when used for individuals with traumatic brain injury (TBI). The purpose of this study was to determine if the ABC Scale is correlated with performance-based measures of balance and walking, if the ABC Scale is reliable with repeated administration, and if the ABC Scale can identify individuals at risk for falls or near-falls.

It utilizes a biological-psychosocial conceptual framework consistent with the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health, which highlights that biological, psychological, and social factors all play a role in disease and children’s recovery from acquired brain injury. With its clinical perspective, it incorporates current and past research and evidence regarding advances that have occurred in outcomes, predictors, medical technology, and rehabilitation post-TBI. This book is great resource for established and new clinicians and researchers, graduate students, and postdoctoral fellows who work in the field of pediatric TBI, including psychologists, neuropsychologists, pediatricians, and psychiatrists.

This extraordinary, magnificently illustrated and unique single-authored textbook, Brain Injury: Applications from War and Terrorism, is the culmination of Dr. Gean''s dedication and experience. The Traumatized Brain written by Vani Rao and has been published by JHU Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-11-15 with Health & Fitness categories.

Useful information and real hope for patients and families whose lives have been altered by traumatic brain injury. A traumatic brain injury is a life-changing event, affecting an individual’s lifestyle, ability to work, relationships—even personality. Whatever caused it—car crash, work accident, sports injury, domestic violence, combat—a severe blow to the head results in acute and, often, lasting symptoms. People with brain injury benefit from understanding, patience, and assistance in recovering their bearings and functioning to their full abilities. In The Traumatized Brain, neuropsychiatrists Drs. Vani Rao and Sandeep Vaishnavi—experts in helping people heal after head trauma—explain how traumatic brain injury, whether mild, moderate, or severe, affects the brain. They advise readers on how emotional symptoms such as depression, anxiety, mania, and apathy can be treated; how behavioral symptoms such as psychosis, aggression, impulsivity, and sleep disturbances can be addressed; and how cognitive functions like attention, memory, executive functioning, and language can be improved. They also discuss headaches, seizures, vision problems, and other neurological symptoms of traumatic brain injury. By stressing that symptoms are real and are directly related to the trauma, Rao and Vaishnavi hope to restore dignity to people with traumatic brain injury and encourage them to ask for help. Each chapter incorporates case studies and suggestions for appropriate medications, counseling, and other treatments and ends with targeted tips for coping. The book also includes a useful glossary, a list of resources, and suggestions for further reading.
