Because all non-Christian worldviews are indefensible, it is not sufficient for skeptics to attack Christianity without also defending the foundation for their own unbelief. Everyone has a worldview, even atheists and skeptics, but only the Christian worldview is not self-contradictory. The Absurdity of Unbelief demonstrates why every possible reason for unbelief is irrational and ultimately meaningless by exposing the various self-refuting systems of thought in which these objections are rooted. Chapter by chapter Jeffrey Johnson strips unbelief of any vestige of credibility, then shows with crystal clarity why the biblical case for God stands supreme when contrasted with all other philosophical and religious belief systems. - Back cover.

Unbelief written by Fr. Nicolas J. Laforet and has been published by Sophia Institute Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-03-28 with Philosophy categories.

In this classic work praised by Pope Pius IX himself, Fr. Nicolas J. Laforet lays out the spiritual causes of unbelief, and shows the antidotes necessary to remedy each. Noting that unbelief is not a particularly modern phenomenon (after all, many people refused to believe in Jesus even after having witnessed his miracles), Fr. Laforet explains that unbelief is not merely a matter of the intellect; on the contrary, where unbelief prevails we almost always find its source in a person’s will. From the fruits of his spiritual and psychological analysis, Fr. LaForet then crafts a simple but powerful remedy — one that is sure to bring to Christ any reasonable person who honestly employs it. No wonder the great Cardinal James Gibbons treasured this book, writing: “I consider its value beyond price, and highly recommend it to all, especially in these days of doubt and denial.” Among the things you will learn here are: The spiritual roots of unbelief, and the main form it takes todayIf you can’t make yourself believe, why does the Church consider unbelief a vice? Why Christianity could conquer the brutal Roman Empire, but suffer even more defeats in our dayFaith and reason: learn how Christian faith purifies reason, strengthens it, extends it, and even elevates itTrue faith: why it isn’t blind — and can never beThe one thing that always opens the gates of faith — even to those who live in darknessDiscover the two forms of materialism — practical and dogmatic— and how each corrodes faith “This book will be a powerful aid to souls, helping them reject error and gain free access to truth.” Blessed Pope Pius IX

Gospel Of The Absurd written by Robert Scot Miller and has been published by Wipf and Stock Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-08-02 with Religion categories.

Gospel of the Absurd is a project that originates in the anarchic experiences of a crack cocaine addict who was knocked off his high horse by an experience of Jesus. Having spent years as an enemy of the faith, R. Scot Miller came back to faith with the passion of a new convert infused with a subversive's heart for turning the world upside down. In the process of stumbling every bit as much as he learned to walk in the light, Miller begins to understand that the subversive claims of the gospel of Jesus as the Christ are not only the most meaningful response to the absurdity of the world, but that such absurdity demands a community of action that makes the subversive Christ the credible response to a culture and Christendom run amok with power and greed. Gospel of the Absurd is about an ethic informed by an absurd claim--that being the claim that voluntary sacrifice of privilege is the proper response to human brokenness and the systems of domination that have lured the church into apostasy. Miller then explores whether the church, by prioritizing care ethics over legislative or coercive justice, is the salvific experience Jesus is calling us to engage in.

Mr. A's nightmare was small potatoes compared to Mr. C's little antique box. Why did Mr. A convert from being a confident atheist to a rather non-committal agnostic? That Mr. C didn't fit the stereotype of an ignorant hypocrite bothered Mr. A, but why does he now doubt his once unflinching ability to make reasonable claims about the existence of God? He is even nervous about a possible afterlife. The little brown box had shaken him to the core. Was he really a man of faith, and blind unjustified faith at that? Intending to pull weeds, Mr. A sat on a pile of dirt contemplating the meaning of his life. Leaving Mr. A for a moment, imagine happy young Christians prancing off to college to find everything they hold dear mocked and dismissed as nonsense. "Jonah in a whale? Humanity saved in an ark?" And with a raising of an eyebrow and peering over the eye glasses, "you don't reeeally take the Bible literally, do you?" It can be a bit intimidating. Imagine four concentrated years of this from professors and classmates. Can the joy, assurance and faith of believers survive and even thrive in such an environment? Can our own joy, assurance, and faith survive and thrive in the sea of unbelief that surrounds us? Atheists and agnostics pride themselves on being reasonable and scientific while viewing Christian faith as blind and unreasonable. But could the opposite be true? Could Christian faith be neither blind nor unreasonable while the best arguments of atheism and agnosticism rest on unsupportable assumptions of faith? Moreover, could the toughest arguments against faith in Christ become the catalyst for stronger joy, assurance, and faith in Christ as we recognize the blind and unreasonable faith of unbelief in the best of its proponents? Indeed they can. Arguments rest on basic assumptions, and arguments built on false assumptions produce faulty conclusions, regardless of the sophistication of the argument. For instance, what must someone know to legitimately claim that God does not exist? Answer: everything about everything in the universe and beyond. Unjustified faith in one's ability to make "authoritative" assertions about things that cannot be known without infinite knowledge or direct revelation from God underlies all atheistic arguments. What about arguments against the possibility of biblical miracles? Given that God has infinite power to create, order, and sustain all things, and given that He cannot be limited by the laws He created and upholds, one must presume that He does not exist to deny biblical miracles. But again, what must someone know to legitimately claim that God does not exist? Answer, everything about everything in the universe and beyond. Every denial of the possibility of biblical miracles rests on an unreasonable, unjustified, and easily refutable assumption of faith. Indeed, anyone who cannot know the contents of Mr. C's rosewood box without looking inside it cannot possibly know that God does not exist or that He is limited by the universe He created. All arguments against the existence and nature of God, whether the "problem of evil" or the impossibility of the Trinity, can easily be exposed as resting on same unreasonable assumptions of blind faith. When Christians learn to identify these assumptions, they are not only equipped to refute the most difficult arguments of unbelief, they will be encouraged in their faith in Christ and Scripture, and inoculated against intimidating arguments that would steal their joy and assurance.
