Everyone has a COVID pandemic story to tell. Dr. Andrew Duxbury has many: stories of a veteran geriatric physician caring for the most fragile patients in a university health system and in rural homes in the Deep South; stories of his concern for family, friends, fellow practitioners, and the state of our healthcare system nationwide; stories of his own isolation, of the loss of simple pleasures and passionate pastimes; stories of policies and politics that contributed to tens of thousands of needless deaths as well-known preventative measures were actively discouraged by state and local governments and exacerbated by cultural divides. This is a rare account of a rare time in American history, a contemporaneous record from the end of "normal", and the anxiety and despair felt by all, to the beginning of new hope for a better future.

Andrew Duxbury is originally from Seattle, Washington. He received his BS in chemistry and biology from Stanford University and his MD from the University of Washington. He spent his early career at UC Davis in Sacramento where he discovered the fascinating world of geriatric medicine and his first husband, Steve Spivey. He later left the West Coast for the Deep South and the geriatrics faculty of the University of Alabama at Birmingham where he continues to teach and practice geriatric medicine. After the untimely death of his first husband, shortly after moving to Alabama, he decided to rebalance his life, beginning a second career as a performer and picking up a second husband, Tommy Thompson, along the way. Tommy also died young, leading to additional introspection and a third career as a writer. He was soon composing daily reports as he tried to comprehend a period of time, when everyone's lives suddenly changed and Italy struggled against an epidemic, that was so strange, so troubling and so fascinating that he found it impossible to think about anything else. Having lived in Rome for eighteen years, Matthew has grown to know the capital and its citizens well and this collection of brilliant diary pieces connects what he has learned about the city with this extraordinary, anxious moment, revealing the Romans through the intense prism of the coronavirus crisis.

Life In A Time Of Plague written by Julian Roup and has been published by Blkdog Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020-08-16 with categories.

Life in a Time of Plague is the story of Britain under the first 75 days of its unprecedented Covid-19 lockdown, seen from the author's rural East Sussex valley home in England. From the refuge of a seemingly idyllic rural idyll, the book monitors in bleak and forensic detail the failure of the Government to protect Britain, and its woeful response at every stage of the pandemic. The author's age and medical issues colour this diary with a dark humour, as his age group is most at risk. He is determined to make his 70th birthday at least, despite the thousands of deaths in Britain to date. It is a quiet slow appreciation of the bright green spring and summer of 2020 in the English countryside, set against the horrors faced by frontline workers. However, what is most surprising is that amid the death, heartache and economic carnage, there is also a silver lining, a chance to simply stop and stare, and rethink our lives. * * * "Engaged, intelligent, personal, fast moving and funny." - Graham Watts, Financial Times
