I honestly thought that I was capable of coping with any kind of stress after having gone through so much pain and sorrow as a child. But when my ex-daughter-in-law and her god-awful mother attacked me with defamation of character, my brain simply snapped. One moment I wanted to commit suicide, and then the next moment, I just wanted revenge. My psychologist had mentioned that the events that had occurred with my ex-daughter-in-law had unlocked the forbidden door to my childhood and had unleashed all of my childhood demons. My psychologist was also the one that suggested that I should start writing about my life. She also said that, by putting my terrifying memories on paper, it would help me put my childhood nightmares to rest.

Letters to and from an Innocent Man By: Maria Moeller-Hackler Jimmy and Maria were an average American couple living a simple life when an accusation of molestation changed their lives forever. Between May 2016 and May 2017, a bitter dispute between a former lover over parental rights resulted in an accusation of a years old case of molestation and a guilty conviction based on nothing more than false accusations and hearsay. Jimmy’s past relationship with Kathy led to the birth of two daughters, although she also had a daughter from a previous relationship. The relationship was rocky from the beginning, marked with periods of strife, drinking, unemployment, and discontent. While the relationship was relatively short-lived, Jimmy continued to seek visitation with his two daughters. Jimmy’s life, however, was instantly changed when Kathy’s daughter accused him of molestation during the years they resided together. This story is about the events that followed and how Jimmy was tried and convicted in a corrupt court system that labeled him guilty with no evidence and little more than a young woman’s claims, which likely came about as a result of Kathy’s attempts to terminate Jimmy’s parental rights to his daughters. This book brings to light the corruption of the courts and a system that doesn’t seek to unearth the truth. It is a deeply personal account of Maria and Jimmy’s fight against the courts, Letters to and From an Innocent Man includes personal—and often emotional and heartbreaking—letters between Maria and Jimmy as they seek to prove his innocence and set him free.

A gripping account of one man's long road to freedom that will forever change how we understand our criminal justice system. During the last three decades, more than two thousand American citizens have been wrongfully convicted. Ghost of the Innocent Man brings us one of the most dramatic of those cases and provides the clearest picture yet of the national scourge of wrongful conviction and of the opportunity for meaningful reform. When the final gavel clapped in a rural southern courtroom in the summer of 1988, Willie J. Grimes, a gentle spirit with no record of violence, was shocked and devastated to be convicted of first-degree rape and sentenced to life imprisonment. Here is the story of this everyman and his extraordinary quarter-century-long journey to freedom, told in breathtaking and sympathetic detail, from the botched evidence and suspect testimony that led to his incarceration to the tireless efforts to prove his innocence and the identity of the true perpetrator. These were spearheaded by his relentless champion, Christine Mumma, a cofounder of North Carolina's Innocence Inquiry Commission. That commission -- unprecedented at its inception in 2006 -- remains a model organization unlike any other in the country, and one now responsible for a growing number of exonerations. With meticulous, prismatic research and pulse-quickening prose, Benjamin Rachlin presents one man's tragedy and triumph. The jarring and unsettling truth is that the story of Willie J. Grimes, for all its outrage, dignity, and grace, is not a unique travesty. But through the harrowing and suspenseful account of one life, told from the inside, we experience the full horror of wrongful conviction on a national scale. Ghost of the Innocent Man is both rare and essential, a masterwork of empathy. The book offers a profound reckoning not only with the shortcomings of our criminal justice system but also with its possibilities for redemption. "Remarkable . . . Captivating . . . Rachlin is a skilled storyteller."-New York Times Book Review "A gripping legal-thriller mystery . . . Profoundly elevates good-cause advocacy to greater heights -- to where innocent lives are saved."-USA Today "A crisply written page turner."-NPR

Independent Research Findings "Between 2015 and 2019, nearly 62,000 obscene publications offences against children were recorded across 39 police forces within England and Wales (Office for National Statistics, 2020). In the same time frame, 8,318,529 unique indecent images of children were added to the Child Abuse Image Database (CAID), with over 700,000 falling into the most severe category of image ... Importantly, a substantial parallel has been identified between the volume, availability, and circulation of Indecent Images of Children and the augmentation of the internet (Carr, 2003; Wolak et al., 2011). While possession offences of this nature are not new (the Protection of Children Act 1978 first made Indecent Images of Children possession offences illegal within England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, with similar provisions in Scotland), the number of recorded offences has been growing year by year (Child Exploitation and Online Protection Centre, 2012). Despite the true figure not being known, it has been suggested that in 2013, around 50,000 individuals within the United Kingdom downloaded Indecent Images of Children (Giles & Alison, 2021). These growing figures have attracted public interest in recent years." CONTAINS MATERIAL SOME MAY FIND OFFENSIVE

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • John Grisham’s first work of nonfiction: a true crime story that will terrify anyone who believes in the presumption of innocence. • LOOK FOR THE NETFLIX ORIGINAL DOCUMENTARY SERIES “Both an American tragedy and [Grisham’s] strongest legal thriller yet, all the more gripping because it happens to be true.”—Entertainment Weekly In the town of Ada, Oklahoma, Ron Williamson was going to be the next Mickey Mantle. But on his way to the Big Leagues, Ron stumbled, his dreams broken by drinking, drugs, and women. Then, on a winter night in 1982, not far from Ron’s home, a young cocktail waitress named Debra Sue Carter was savagely murdered. The investigation led nowhere. Until, on the flimsiest evidence, it led to Ron Williamson. The washed-up small-town hero was charged, tried, and sentenced to death—in a trial littered with lying witnesses and tainted evidence that would shatter a man’s already broken life, and let a true killer go free. Impeccably researched, grippingly told, filled with eleventh-hour drama, The Innocent Man reads like a page-turning legal thriller. It is a book no American can afford to miss. Don’t miss John Grisham’s new book, THE EXCHANGE: AFTER THE FIRM!

Convicting The Innocent written by Brandon L. Garrett and has been published by Harvard University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-08-04 with Art categories.

On January 20, 1984, Earl Washington—defended for all of forty minutes by a lawyer who had never tried a death penalty case—was found guilty of rape and murder in the state of Virginia and sentenced to death. After nine years on death row, DNA testing cast doubt on his conviction and saved his life. However, he spent another eight years in prison before more sophisticated DNA technology proved his innocence and convicted the guilty man. DNA exonerations have shattered confidence in the criminal justice system by exposing how often we have convicted the innocent and let the guilty walk free. In this unsettling in-depth analysis, Brandon Garrett examines what went wrong in the cases of the first 250 wrongfully convicted people to be exonerated by DNA testing. Based on trial transcripts, Garrett’s investigation into the causes of wrongful convictions reveals larger patterns of incompetence, abuse, and error. Evidence corrupted by suggestive eyewitness procedures, coercive interrogations, unsound and unreliable forensics, shoddy investigative practices, cognitive bias, and poor lawyering illustrates the weaknesses built into our current criminal justice system. Garrett proposes practical reforms that rely more on documented, recorded, and audited evidence, and less on fallible human memory. Very few crimes committed in the United States involve biological evidence that can be tested using DNA. How many unjust convictions are there that we will never discover? Convicting the Innocent makes a powerful case for systemic reforms to improve the accuracy of all criminal cases.

Summa Theologica written by Thomas Aquinas and has been published by e-artnow this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-10-06 with Philosophy categories.

This ebook is the best-known work of Thomas Aquinas (c.1225–1274). Although unfinished, the Summa is "one of the classics of the history of philosophy and one of the most influential works of Western literature." It is intended as an instructional guide for moderate theologians, and a compendium of all of the main theological teachings of the Catholic Church. It presents the reasoning for almost all points of Christian theology in the West. The Summa Theologica is divided into three parts, and each of these three parts contains numerous subdivisions. Part 1 deals primarily with God and comprises discussions of 119 questions concerning the existence and nature of God, the Creation, angels, the work of the six days of Creation, the essence and nature of man, and divine government. Part 2 deals with man and includes discussions of 303 questions concerning the purpose of man, habits, types of law, vices and virtues, prudence and justice, fortitude and temperance, graces, and the religious versus the secular life. Part 3 deals with Christ and comprises discussions of 90 questions concerning the Incarnation, the Sacraments, and the Resurrection. Some editions of the Summa Theologica include a Supplement comprising discussions of an additional 99 questions concerning a wide variety of loosely related issues such as excommunication, indulgences, confession, marriage, purgatory, and the relations of the saints toward the damned. Scholars believe that Rainaldo da Piperno, a friend of Aquinas, probably gathered the material in this supplement from a work that Aquinas had completed before he began working on the Summa Theologica.
