Excerpt from The Agnes Scott Alumnae Quarterly, Vol. 15: Published in November, January, April and July by the Agnes Scott Alumnae Association; November 1936-July 1937 The greatest achievement of Agnes Scott for the session 1935 1936 has been the erec tion and equipping of a new library building. We have long needed this. Our old build ing was adequate for many years and Is Still a very attractive feature of our campus. We have long outgrown it, however, and the work of the College would have been handi capped without the erection of the new structure. While it is not the most costly college library building that has been erected, the total cost being about it is one of the most nearly perfect buildings for the purpose that has yet been erected on any campus. Miss Edna Hanley, our Librarian, wrote her dissertation for the Master's degree on library buildings and made a careful study of all existing buildings that have been regarded as outstanding in any features. Excerpt from The Agnes Scott Alumnae Quarterly, Vol. 14: November, 1935 As to the personal work of the commit tee, we have not left the garden to the disinterested care of the campus workmen, but have spent many hot hours digging, planting and weeding. We have rooted twelve hundred boxwood plants. Of these we set out about eight hundred for borders in the garden and the rest are in reserve in our rooting bed. According to nursery prices, this is over $200 worth of boxwood, so that those of us who did this work are very proud of our contribution to the gar den. We intend to root more boxwood this year to be used in beautifying other places on the campus and we suggest that future garden committees make this a part of their work, so that in the years to come the Agnes Scott campus may be known for its beautiful boxwood. Excerpt from The Agnes Scott Alumnae Quarterly, Vol. 3: October, 1924 There seems to be no better way to accomplish this than by putting the Association on the sound basis of as nearly perfect an organization as we can achieve, building on the work of those who have gone before us. Immediately you see the records in our Alumnae office must be correct, we must have a geographic file as Well as the card index system giving necessary information about every girl who ever attended Agnes Scott, and a file also of the married names of our girls. To accomplish this as quickly as possible Miss Buchanan is bending every energy and the office will soon feel that no request for information about former students can come to us which we cannot answer quickly and accurately. Excerpt from The Agnes Scott Alumnae Quarterly, Vol. 8: November 1929, Home-Coming Number The General Education Board has been most generous in trusting us to do our part of the whole job. Never before have they paid part of their pledge until the conditions were fully met. We are on our honor to do our part. We still have to raise. We are allowed until July 1, 1934, to get the actual cash, but the pledges are needed very soon. We have gotten all the easy money for the campaign, and the hardest part of the drive is ahead of us.
