Alternate Histories written by Evelyn Saxon and has been published by Publifye AS this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2025-05-05 with History categories.

Alternate Histories explores the compelling genre of alternate history, dissecting how authors build believable ""what if"" scenarios. The book examines the intricate relationship between historical accuracy, imaginative world-building, and character development within these fictional realms. Intriguingly, even subtle changes to established timelines can ripple outwards, creating vastly different social, political, and technological landscapes. One key insight is that the most compelling narratives are not mere fantasy but carefully constructed explorations of consequence. The book analyzes how authors use meticulous research to ground speculative narratives in historical plausibility and create believable character arcs within altered realities. It also addresses ethical considerations in reimagining historical events. Progressing from theoretical frameworks to literary analysis, Alternate Histories examines the cultural impact of these narratives, revealing how they inspire critical thinking, challenge conventional history, and influence contemporary discourse. It offers a unique lens through which to examine the nature of causality, the fragility of historical outcomes, and the enduring impact of human choices.

“Everything in the universe, from human relationships to high energy particle interactions is participating in a ceaseless process of change guided by simple, yet universal patterns. From the beginning of philosophical thought in ancient China, nearly 4000 years ago through current research in physics and molecular biology, one basic question is being posed: How do phenomena change?” (Phillips, 1992) The book "Anatomy of Change: Millennia Old Model For Navigating Change and Uncertainty" explores one of the world oldest and perhaps the most universal system developed by mankind – the I Ching, or the ancient Chinese Classic of Change – to address this question in the context of human relationships and organizational dynamics.

Kevin William Grant examines the cognitive processes that produce metaphors in psychotherapy. The "I-Ching Task" is the measure of metaphor production applied in this research inquiry. Two cognitive processes are hypothesized to be necessary for the production of a metaphor. The first hypothesized cognitive process is sensory-imaginal processing, where attention is concentrated into one's internal experiencing and sensory awareness to form sensory impressions or sensory images. The second type of processing is called integration-synthesis processing, and this is hypothesized to work in parallel with sensory-imaginal processing. Integration-synthesis processing functions to combine conflicting or contradictory elements into an integrated whole. Metaphor is the meeting point of these processes, and all of them are important in the production of metaphor in psychotherapy. Revised and updated from the first edition published in 1991.

In Brazil and beyond, these novel religious phenomena are reshaping contemporary understandings of religion and what it means to be religious. To better understand the changing face of twenty-first-century religion, New Era - New Religions situates the rise of new era religiosity within the broader context of late-modern society and its ongoing transformation.

What Are The Chances Of That written by Andrew C. A. Elliott and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-11-28 with Mathematics categories.

Chance fills every day of our lives and affects every decision we make. Yet, for something woven so closely into the fabric of our being, we are not very good at thinking about uncertainty and risk. In this lively and engaging book, Andrew C. A. Elliott asks why this is so. He picks at the threads and, in showing how our world is built on probability rather than certainty, he identifies five obstacles to thinking about uncertainty that confuse us time after time. Elliott takes us into the casino, but this is not an invitation to gamble. He looks at financial markets, but this is not a guide to investment. There's discussion of health, but this is not a medical book. He touches on genetics and evolution, and music-making, and writing, because chance is at work there too. Entering many different fields, What are the Chances of That? is always following the trail of chance and randomness. One purpose of the book is to go cross-country, to show that there are connected ways of thinking that disrespect boundaries and cut across the domains of finance, and gambling, and genetics, and public health, and creativity. Through it, one visits the vantage points that give a broad view of the landscape and sees how these different areas of life and knowledge are connected - through chance. What are the Chances of That? discusses chance and the importance of understanding how it affects our lives. It goes beyond a mathematical approach to the subject, showing how our thinking about chance and uncertainty has been shaped by history and culture, and only relatively recently by the mathematical theory of probability. In considering how we think about uncertainty, Elliott proposes five “dualities” that encapsulate many of the ambiguities that arise.
