All these run deep in the unconscious mind, and each has suffered far more repression than sex. It is against human experience that all dreams are desires, and it is repulsive that all dreams should be interpreted as relating to sex, and such an explana tion has brought these conclusions of what have been called chimney sweeping investigations into deserved disrepute. Excerpt from The American Journal of Urology and Sexology, Vol. 12: With Which Has Been Consolidated the American Practitioner; January-December, 1916 The first to which I shall refer was reported by Bergsdorf Of Kazan in 1907 and as at this date not much had been published on the subject, Bergsdorf hesitated as to the diagnosis Of a syphilitic reinfection, all the more so, because the second infection occurred within hardly fourteen months after the first. In this case the existence of a first syphilis is undeniable; there was the history Of a suspicious contagion, the clinical picture of the chancre was perfect and followed by a roseola. Excerpt from The American Journal of Urology and Sexology, Vol. 3: January, 1907 Having localized a hematuria as being of renal origin and recognizing that it is only a symptom of some local diseased con dition it is necessary to determine if possible its underlying cause. For this purpose it is insufficient in most instances to confine one's attention to the hematuria alone; one must consider all the other symptoms that the disease presents and all evidence that can be brought out by different methods of examination. In a large pro portion of renal hematurias it will be found that the bleeding de pends upon one of four conditions; malignant disease, calculus, tuberculosis or chronic nephritis. The relative frequency of these makes their recognition particularly important and I shall consider them before taking up any of the less well known causes of renal hematuria.
