Excerpt from The American Magazine of Art, Vol. 12: January, 1921 Halloville in the Vosges, down in a foggy bottom, was so unsanitary and so inaccessible that they abandoned the old site entirely and have now laid out a new town on the upland with wide lots and streets and with their public build ings grouped around a picturesque square in the center. Apremont in the Meuse which used to be such a thriving village, now only knee high, is receiving a community cen ter building from the school children of Holyoke, Mass. We had to provide an adequate setting for it and so we created a civic center where the three main roads meet so as to make a group of the town hall, the school, the church and the community center.
