Since the beginning of time, creatures of the air, land and water have lived in peace in the Ancestral World. Landsmen, common beasts, birds and fishes have dwelt in harmony with insects, reptiles and mythical beasts. Ruled with fairness and wisdom by the Council of Guardians, they have known neither suffering nor the ravages of war. Now an evil spirit has come to this land and is laying waste to all that is good. The Forces of Evil have gained ground fast and many of these peaceful creatures have been killed or have fallen under the Evil One's power. The Life Force of the Ancestral World is almost at an end. Frank Graves is an author and film producer raised in South Africa and is the great grandson of Sir Thomas Maclear named as one of the foremost royal astronomers at the Cape of Good Hope. He is also distantly related to Robert Graves the renowned writer and poet who was a large inspiration for Frank to eventually take up writing. Robert Graves encouraged Frank to start writing with several correspondence letters and stories while still a boy at school. His first published work was published in 1989 was a fictional political thriller named African Chess (Now revamped, updated and republished in March 2014). African Chess was loosely based on his South African upbringing and the then apartheid system in place before Nelson Mandela's release from prison or his death. His next major work published by Marshall Cavendish in 1992 was an epic 832 page "The Ancestral Trail" was 'split' into two halves of 26 issues each, making a total of 52 issues in total, all contained consecutive page and issue numbers. The first half, published fortnightly throughout 1993, takes place within a mythological 'Ancestral World' that describes a boy's struggle to restore good to these worlds. After the initial international run that sold over 30 million copies worldwide, the second half of that series was then created and was published in 1994 and took place in the totally different 'Cyber Dimension' all about the same boy's attempt to find a way back to his own world. Graves has now updated and re-written the full "Ancestral Trail Trilogy" in the form of three major novels. In January 2014, the first section covering a journey through an 'Ancient World' within "The Ancestral Trail Trilogy" named "Long Ago & Far Away" in a 450-page novel was published. The next novel is the second continuing section of the trilogy that covers a 'Cyber World' published in November 2014 and the third section of the trilogy, covering our 'Exponential World' published in mid 2017.

This book is a personal history of the lives of the author's ancestors. Through parish records, medieval court records, and newspaper articles, it traces the family line back to the sixteenth century. It gives detailed accounts of the lives of the author's Victorian and later ancestors. During the Victorian and Edwardian periods, drunkenness and minor crime such as poaching were widespread amongst the poor at that time and the Chatters families were often in trouble with the authorities. Many of the stories are not untypical of many working class families living in rural England. Life in the villages only began to improve with the introduction of compulsory education and, fortunately, the author's recent ancestors were better behaved!

“Outstanding…Amid a space opera resurgence, Bear’s novel sets the bar high.” —Publishers Weekly (starred review) A space salvager and her partner make the discovery of a lifetime that just might change the universe in this wild, big-ideas space opera from Hugo Award-winning author Elizabeth Bear. Halmey Dz and her partner Connla Kurucz are salvage operators, living just on the inside of the law...usually. Theirs is the perilous and marginal existence—with barely enough chance of striking it fantastically big—just once—to keep them coming back for more. They pilot their tiny ship into the scars left by unsuccessful White Transitions, searching for the relics of lost human and alien vessels. But when they make a shocking discovery about an alien species that has been long thought dead, it may be the thing that could tip the perilous peace mankind has found into full-out war. Energetic and electrifying, Ancestral Night is a dazzling space opera, sure to delight fans of Alastair Reynolds, Iain M. Banks, and Peter F. Hamilton—“Bear's ability to create breathtaking variations on ancient themes and make them new and brilliant is, perhaps, unparalleled in the genre” (Library Journal, starred review).

Ancestral Shadows written by Russell Kirk and has been published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004 with Fiction categories.

Widely regarded as the founder of the modern conservative movement, Russell Kirk was a noted man of letters whose prodigious literary output included a syndicated newspaper column, a regular page in "National Review," and many books. This volume demonstrates another compelling side of Kirk -- the imaginative author who could communicate his powerful vision through the dramatic genre of the ghost story. "Ancestral Shadows" collects nineteen of Kirkbs best ghostly tales from periodicals and anthologies published throughout his life. In the tradition of Defoe, Stevenson, Hawthorne, Coleridge, Poe, and other master writers, these frightful stories conjure the creaks and shadows of the very places where they came to life through Kirkbs pen: haunted St. Andrews, the Isle of Eigg, Kellie Castle, Balcarres House, Durie House (bwhich has the most persistent of all country-house spectresb), and Kirkbs own ancestral spooky house in Mecosta, Michigan. Full of fantastic gothic tales masterfully told, the volume ends with bA Cautionary Note on the Ghostly Tale, b an incisive piece in which Kirk reflects on why he writes such stories: bexperiments in the moral imaginationb are what he is really after. Ghost stories are not merely entertaining but possess a particular ability to capture the essential features of human nature, of good and evil. bAll important literature has some ethical end, b Kirk says, band the tale of the preternatural -- as written by George Macdonald, C. S. Lewis, Charles Williams, and other masters -- can be an instrument for the recovery of moral order.b Including an illuminative introduction by Vigen Guroian, "Ancestral Shadows" will enthrall and delight all lovers ofghost stories.
