Annotation. For Huastecan Nahuas, water is a symbolic reference. This book describes the multiple values attached to water through the practice of tale telling in this society. It analyzes several local tales about water manifestations such as floodings, thunderstorms, and waterlords, and explores what these mean to Huastecan Nahuas in their present socio-cultural context. The author shows how tales about this element represent and discuss current themes like the village's right to exist, social cohesion among villagers, the need to show respect towards nature, and life and death. The book reveals how the study of tale telling provides a promising angle to address and better understand today's indigenous cultures in Mexico. In style terms this work is in three parts. First is this preface, then there is the OLD REALITY and the NEW REALITY.As previously indicated it is this PREFACE which must contain the accurate science! And that aspect has led to this title, for what was originally called the Black Tyger. The RTUR! I am aware that sometimes that has the extended spelling RTTUR to make the point of the double < TT >.It is not that the Black Tyger has changed, nor indeed the RTUR concept, but rather it has been refined, as I more clearly understand what is required at the Science level to reveal the reality. On the one hand it is done in an INSTANT, even BEFORE I write, since it is ALL IN PLACE, but disclosure contains a Time Element, which is checked for accuracy on the basis of REAL EVENTS. And real events will naturally include films, and television broadcasts, and radio transmissions; even down to what is reported in the newspapers; including particularly what is factually inaccurate but printed for political expediency; such as the instructions of the ruling party diktat!

In the fall of 1989, the Archaeological and Historical Research Institute (AHRI) entered into negotiations with the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) to establish a five-year field school at Fort Craig beginning in June of 1990. The project was designed to serve a number of purposes: (a) to operate an archaeological field school for the training of students and the interested public; (b) to assess the nature and extent of cultural resources at the site and to serve as a guide for any future research that may be undertaken; and (c) to establish a foundation for the BLM's public interpretation program at the site. The five seasons of fieldwork were conducted from 1990 to 1994 during the summer and fall. This report describes the results of the archaeological excavations and historical records search conducted by the AHRI at the Fort Craig National Historic site.
