Joanne Hayes, at 24 years of age, concealed the birth and death of her baby in County Kerry, Ireland, in 1984. Subsequently she confessed to the murder, by stabbing, of another baby. All of the scientific evidence showed that she could not have had this second baby. The police nevertheless, insisted on charging her and, after the charges were dropped, continued to insist that she had given birth to twins conceived of two different men. A public tribunal of inquiry was called to examine the behavior of the police and their handling of the case. The police, in defense of themselves and in justification of "confessions" obtained, called a succession of male experts on the medical, social and moral roman catholic fiber of Joanne Hayes. Her married lover detailed the times, places and manner of her love making. Using the "twins" theory as a springboard, the question was posed and debated "Did she love this man or what was he and other men prepared to do with her?" After six months of daily discussion among the men, the judge declared "There were times when we all believed she had twins." The treatment of Joanne Hayes, who stood accused of no crime, was a model for Irish male attitudes to woman. She was caught up in a time of rapid social change between two Irelands, an earlier Ireland in which the Catholic Church had held a moral monopoly and a new liberal and secular Ireland.

This Lovely Life written by Vicki Forman and has been published by HMH this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2009-07-23 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

One woman’s true story of raising a child born three months premature—“propulsive, startling, and vivid, like motherhood itself” (Meg Wolitzer, New York Times–bestselling author of The Female Persuasion). Vicki Forman gave birth to Evan and Ellie, weighing only one pound each, at twenty-three weeks’ gestation. During the delivery she begged the doctors to “let her babies go”—knowing all too well that at their early stage of development they would likely die and, if they survived, would have a high risk of permanent disabilities. However, California law demanded resuscitation. Her daughter died just four days later; her son survived and was indeed multiply disabled: blind, nonverbal, and dependent on a feeding tube. This Lovely Life tells, with brilliant intensity, of what became of the Forman family after the birth of the twins—the harrowing medical interventions and ethical considerations involving the sanctity of life and death. In the end, the long-delayed first steps of a five-year-old child will seem like the fist-pumping stuff of a triumph narrative. Forman’s intelligent voice gives a sensitive, nuanced rendering of her guilt, her anger, and her eventual acceptance in this portrait of a mother’s fierce love for her children. “Intimate, compelling, and hopeful—an absolutely important book.” —Rachel Simon, author of Riding the Bus with My Sister

From Colleen Hoover, the #1 New York Times bestselling author of It Starts with Us and It Ends with Us, a heart-wrenching love story that proves attraction at first sight can be messy. When Tate Collins meets airline pilot Miles Archer, she doesn't think it's love at first sight. They wouldn’t even go so far as to consider themselves friends. The only thing Tate and Miles have in common is an undeniable mutual attraction. Once their desires are out in the open, they realize they have the perfect set-up. He doesn’t want love, she doesn’t have time for love, so that just leaves the sex. Their arrangement could be surprisingly seamless, as long as Tate can stick to the only two rules Miles has for her. Never ask about the past. Don’t expect a future. They think they can handle it, but realize almost immediately they can’t handle it at all. Hearts get infiltrated. Promises get broken. Rules get shattered. Love gets ugly.

The Mother Blame Game written by Vanessa Reimer and has been published by Demeter Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2015-11-01 with Social Science categories.

The Mother-Blame Game is an interdisciplinary and intersectional examination of the phenomenon of mother-blame in the twenty-first century. As the socioeconomic and cultural expectations of what constitutes “good motherhood” grow continually narrow and exclusionary, mothers are demonized and stigmatized—perhaps now more than ever—for all that is perceived to go “wrong” in their children’s lives. This anthology brings together creative and scholarly contributions from feminist academics and activists alike to provide a dynamic study of the many varied ways in which mothers are blamed and shamed for their maternal practice. Importantly, it also considers how mothers resist these ideologies by engaging in empowered and feminist mothering practices, as well as by publicly challenging patriarchal discourses of “good motherhood.”

A Jewish mother's true story of tragedy and triumph, Blame it on Anna was written by Clarice Tilchen, along with her children Mark and Sharon, who explore the meaning of life through their mother as they ponder whether a person's life story can truly be summed up in a few chapters of a book. The story mixes dreams with realities as this simple Jewish woman dances with famous Hollywood personalities as she travels the world. Is it real or fantasy? True or not, Clarice's life is tied to numerous stars of the 1940's and 1950's.Clint Eastwood, Barbra Streisand, Tony Curtis, Dorothy Malone, Rock Hudson, and many others are among those who play a role in this true tale of one person's search for life's joy and happiness. This book is a love story between two sisters on a journey of often unimaginable events. What greater accomplishment than having given everything you have within yourself, never expecting anything in return? Not a thank you, a kiss or even a hug, but rather simply the knowledge you have given with love.A Russian immigrant family comes to America in 1905, and amid much success, tragedy follows the failure of an arranged marriage. An attempted murder, suicide, fire, orphans, cancer...can things get any worse...or is there a story of overcoming adversity somewhere in this tangled mess.
