The Badger Redemption is the third and final instalment in J. A. Ricketts's masterpiece series that focuses on the far-reaching consequences of a small town's actions. As with some endings, this book also serves as the beginning of something new: a legend. Bill Hatcher's confession has set off a chain of events that has forced the residents of Badger, Newfoundland, to re-evaluate their own lives, and to question their place in this world . . . and the next. Constable William Moss is long dead, and his is one of many spirits wandering in unrest as Ralph Drum tries to reconcile the policeman's murder with new revelations in Ralph's own family. Redemption is at hand for Ralph, Jennie, and thousands of others whose lives were changed when the Riot claimed a victim. They will soon learn that, in Badger, even dead men tell tales. Let the legend begin . . .

The loggers' strike of 1959 is over. Premier Joey Smallwood has decertified the International Woodworkers of America, branding them as outlaws and traitors for good measure. Many of Badger's residents have scattered to the winds under the weight of a feeling of guilt, shame, and loss. The unsolved murder of Constable William Moss has left an indelible mark in the history books of Newfoundland and Labrador. The Riot is over, but not for the town of Badger. The Badger Confession is the sequel to the National Bestseller The Badger Riot. It tells the story of the Riot's fallout over the next thirty years, of secrets that may never be revealed, and of small-town Canada's struggle to redeem itself when tragedy dogs its heels.

In 1959, the small town of Badger was the centre of a labour confrontation that forever changed the social and political landscape of Newfoundland. For two and a half months, loggers had been striking for better wages and working conditions. Led by the International Woodworkers of America (IWA), the strike reached its climax when national and provincial police forces stormed the town in an attempt to break the impasse. The Badger Riot tells the story of the deadly melee that followed. This work of fiction captures for the first time the horror of a small community of people still reeling in shock from a tragedy that could have been prevented.

Survival, happiness, and justice in the wild--through the eyes of a loving predator Melanie the badger is fierce, loving, independent, proud, and deeply protective of her young. As she roams the seasons of her life, she lives out a story of justice and survival. She loses young and survives, she loves and loses her lovers. No matter what happens to Melanie, she continues onward, survives, and never gives up hope. This deeply emotional second novel of the planned five novels in The Warren series, described as "beautiful, heartbreaking animal stories," is a classic tale of good versus evil that culminates in an epic battle. In the life of one female badger, a story of predator and prey, are powerful lessons meant for adults or young adults: Never give up hope, no matter how hopeless things seem; Evil can be conquered, no matter how large or powerful; Have charity toward others; Stay strong in life and maintain your faith.

Borderland Narratives written by Andrew K. Frank and has been published by University Press of Florida this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-04-16 with History categories.

Broadening the idea of "borderlands" beyond its traditional geographic meaning, this volume features new ways of characterizing the political, cultural, religious, and racial fluidity of early America. It extends the concept to regions not typically seen as borderlands and demonstrates how the term has been used in recent years to describe unstable spaces where people, cultures, and viewpoints collide. The essays include an exploration of the diplomacy and motives that led colonial and Native leaders in the Ohio Valley—including those from the Shawnee and Cherokee—to cooperate and form coalitions; a contextualized look at the relationship between African Americans and Seminole Indians on the Florida borderlands; and an assessment of the role that animal husbandry played in the economies of southeastern Indians. An essay on the experiences of those who disappeared in the early colonial southwest highlights the magnitude of destruction on these emergent borderlands and features a fresh perspective on Cabeza de Vaca. Yet another essay examines the experiences of French missionary priests in the trans-Appalachian West, adding a new layer of understanding to places ordinarily associated with the evangelical Protestant revivals of the Second Great Awakening. Collectively these essays focus on marginalized peoples and reveal how their experiences and decisions lie at the center of the history of borderlands. They also look at the process of cultural mixing and the crossing of religious and racial boundaries. A timely assessment of the dynamic field of borderland studies, Borderland Narratives argues that the interpretive model of borders is essential to understanding the history of colonial North America. A volume in the series Contested Boundaries, edited by Gene Allen Smith Contributors: Andrew Frank | A. Glenn Crothers | Rob Harper | Tyler Boulware | Carla Gerona | Rebekah M. K.
