WELCOME TO THE MASQUERADE 2020 was a reality horror show. And like most obnoxious entertainment reality shows, this one had its own idiosyncratic rules and penalties. Call it The Big Lockdown. We were forced to go to ground, to hide in our holes. Some went underground and never came back. Uncertainty ruled because the rules kept changing. Were we following the science or the mad scientists? Was the light at the end of the tunnel the fiery mouth of hell? We couldn’t say for sure, so we ventured out for food, booze and sundries like scavengers in a slow-motion apocalypse, keeping our distance from fellow human beings because you never knew who might be carrying that heavy viral load. And everywhere we went, we went behind the mask. So, it became obvious: The theme of our offering of extreme horror tales from 2020 had to be Masquerade. Our masquerading storytellers nevertheless did what they do best. They went deep into the belly of the beast and sent up fictions reflective of these “trying” times. Their stories peel away the masks (or in some cases, the skin) to reveal the inner workings of darkest hearts and minds and deeper fears. Intensities written by Katharine Sarah Moody and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2016-05-23 with Philosophy categories.

Is the affirmation or intensification of life a value in itself? Can life itself be thought? This book breaks new ground in religious and philosophical thinking on the concept of life. It captures a moment in which such thinking is regaining its force and attraction for scholars, and the relevance of thought to social, cultural, political and religious dilemmas about how and why to live. Bringing together original contributions by highly distinguished authors in the field of Continental philosophy of religion, including John D. Caputo, Pamela Sue Anderson, Philip Goodchild, Alison Martin and Don Cupitt, this book has a distinctiveness based on its refusal to sit easily within either secular philosophical or theological approaches. The concept of life mobilizes a thinking that crosses narrow disciplinary boundaries, whilst retaining philosophical rigour. Three sections explore the various dimensions of the question of life: The Politics of Life'; 'Life and the Limits of Thinking'; and 'Life and Spirituality'. This book will be of interest to a broad range of readers in the humanities, particularly to philosophers, theologians, cultural theorists and all those interested in philosophical or theological debates on the concept of life.

Louis Ginzberg's "The Legends of the Jews — Vol. 2" is a thorough and influential study. Some stories are brutal and weird, while others creep up on you and draw you in slowly. Because the title character is so indulgent, readers are forced to keep reading to find out what happens next. This historical book is a wonderful compilation of concepts that have been condensed into a single draft for readers of all ages to read. This multi-volume series contains a plethora of Jewish folklore, myths, and stories spanning the centuries from the beginning of recorded history to the conclusion of the biblical era. Vol. 2, "Bible Times and Characters from Creation to Jacob," goes into the oldest stories in the Hebrew Bible. This edition of "The Legends of the Jews — Vol. 2" is both current and legible, with an eye-catching new cover and professionally typeset copy. Ginzberg meticulously weaves together a diverse range of materials, including Talmudic and Midrashic literature, to recreate and build on Old Testament episodes. His literature provides readers with a strong understanding of the cultural and religious roots of Jewish traditions, as well as insights into the moral, ethical, and theological components of these stories.

Borrowing from the Hebraic tradition of psalmody, latter Christian music composers and musicians derived their songs and hymns from their faith experiences with God and the community. Apart from their melodious distinctiveness, and the universal application of the lyrics, the respective backgrounds of these hymns make them more relevant and more applicable to our present day situations. This book lists seventy two hymns and songs and exposes the rich heritage and tradition of many well-known Christian hymns and gospel songs.

This Compost written by Jed Rasula and has been published by University of Georgia Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-09-01 with Literary Criticism categories.

Poetry, for Jed Rasula, bears traces of our entanglement with our surroundings, and these traces define a collective voice in modern poetry independent of the more specific influences and backgrounds of the poets themselves. In This Compost Rasula surveys both the convictions asserted by American poets and the poetics they develop in their craft, all with an eye toward an emerging ecological worldview. Rasula begins by examining poets associated with Black Mountain College in the 1950s--Charles Olson, Robert Creeley, and Robert Duncan--and their successors. But This Compost extends to include earlier poets like Robinson Jeffers, Ezra Pound, Louis Zukofsky, Kenneth Rexroth, and Muriel Rukeyser, as well as Clayton Eshleman, Gary Snyder, Michael McClure, and other contemporary poets. Walt Whitman and Emily Dickinson also make appearances. Rasula draws this diverse group of poets together, uncovering how the past is a "compost" fertilizing the present. He looks at the heritage of ancient lore and the legacy of modern history and colonial violence as factors contributing to ecological imperatives in modern poetry. This Compost restores the dialogue between poetic language and the geophysical, biological realm of nature that so much postmodern discourse has sought to silence. It is a fully developed, carefully argued book that deals with an underrepresented element in modern American culture, where the natural world and those who write about it have been greatly neglected in contemporary literary history and theory.
