He left several copies of it, written out at different times, each varying from the others frequently in detail, all entirely unpunctuated, and with innumerable pencil corrections, many of which have been very difficult, and some of them impossible, to decipher. The editor therefore fears she may not in numerous instances have done justice to, nor given accurately, her husbands poetical ideas; but, having performed her labour of love in the best way she could, she must leave it to the kindness of the reader to excuse all defects on her part.
