This resource analyzes knowledge of the bronchial circulation - presenting the anatomy, physiology and clinical importance of this source of blood flow for the lungs.;Written by more than 30 experts from the United States and Europe, The Bronchial Circulation: explains the scientific considerations underlying clinical concepts of asthma, airway infections and hemoptysis, and modern approaches to their care; describes the methods used to measure bronchial blood flow in animals and humans; emphasizes the role of the bronchial circulation in picking up, distributing and eliminating drugs deposited on the mucosa of the airways; shows how mechanical and neurological factors influence total and regional blood flow; discusses the bronchial circulation's function in conditioning inspired air, heat and water exchange, and gas transfer; reveals how the bronchial blood supply to tumours has been employed in their treatment; and details the surgical techniques used to re-establish bronchial blood flow during lung transplantation.;This book is designed for pulmonologists, respiratory physiologists, lung transplant surgeons, and thoracic physicians. It serves as a reference for those interested in cardiopulmonary reactions, including general internists, cardiologists, radiologists, respiratory therapists, medical students, and nurses.

The Lung Circulation written by Domingo M. Aviado and has been published by Elsevier this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2013-10-22 with Medical categories.

The Lung Circulation deals with important aspects of the lung circulation, with emphasis on the physiology of the pulmonary and bronchial circulation and autonomic pharmacology. Topics covered range from the role of anoxia in pulmonary circulation to reflexes arising from the pulmonary circulation and neighboring structures. The release of chemical substances from the pulmonary and bronchial circulation is also discussed. This volume is comprised of 10 chapters and begins with a review of the influence of anoxia on pulmonary circulation as well as four pertinent effects of anoxemia, namely, respiratory stimulation; cardiac stimulation; systemic vasoconstriction and vasodilatation; and pulmonary vasoconstriction and vasodilatation). The following chapters focus on the regulation of bronchial circulation; autonomic nervous control of pulmonary circulation involving acetylcholine, anticholinesterases, and atropine; and the pharmacology of sympathomimetic drugs, sympathetic blocking drugs, ganglion stimulants, and blocking drugs. The final chapter is devoted to the pharmacology of the autonomic nervous system and considers drugs that stimulate chemoreflexes arising from the lung circulation, including veratrum alkaloids. This book will appeal to physiologists and pharmacologists.

This new book with 35 chapters is a comprehensive account of the important features of the pulmonary circulation which will appeal to (1) clinical and non-clinical students who want a broad-based introduction to the subject, (2) postgraduates involved in or contemplating research on the pulmonary circulation, (3) specialists in chest medicine, cardiology and intensive and critical care whose clinical work concerns diseases affecting the pulmonary blood vessels.Pulmonary circulation is well illustrated with 132 figures, 43 tables and learning points highlighted at the end of each chapter. There are two main sections: “Basic Mechanisms” and “Clinical Practice”. All the important features of the pulmonary circulation are reviewed — genetics, cell biology, vascular remodelling, anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, pulmonary hypertension, pulmonary oedema, etc.

This volume documents the proceedings of a symposium on "The Pulmonary Circulation" held at the Ettore Majorana Center for Scientific Culture, in Erice, Sicily, between 16th July and 21st July 1979. This was attended by about 200 participants drawn from Europe as a whole, but the majority were from Southern Europe. The discussion was recorded either in English or Italian and the tapes were reduced to a verbatim typescript by the Ente Nazionale Interpeti Congresso. The verbatim typescript has been edited using a few guiding principles as foliows: Titles and honorifics have been eliminated unless the 1. statement is addressed to a specific person. The style of the speakers in the discussion has been 2. preserved as far as possible and not reduced to a strictly grammatical format. 3. Where references to illustrations (e.g., on the blackboard) are made, the comments have been left unaltered and many are understandable. Removing them detracted from the sense. 4. The air of informality in the proceedings has been preserved so far as possible. 5. The responsibility for the discussion rests solely with the editors, and no contributor has had the opportunity of correcting whae he said. No manuscript was received from one participant, but the 6. discussion of his presentation has been included since it contains some points of substance. G. Cumming and G. The Pulmonary Circulation in Health and Disease covers the proceedings of a symposium purposed to create a more complete picture of the pulmonary circulation under normal and diseased conditions through the help of an interdisciplinary group of acknowledged experts. The book is divided into seven parts. The first part discusses morphology in relation to pulmonary circulation and includes an overview of the microscopic appearance of the pulmonary artery and the innervation of the pulmonary circulation, as well as the structure and infrastructure of the pulmonary microvasculature and the changes it undergoes. The second part concerns itself with the different pharmacological studies related to pulmonary circulation. The third part goes in-depth about concepts in pulmonary hemodynamics, such as its occlusion methods, its models based on anatomic and functional data, its active distribution, and gravity nondependent distribution of pulmonary blood flow; the fourth part on the other hand discusses pulmonary blood flow and gas exchange. The fifth part discusses pulmonary endothelial cells, its mechanisms, and its properties; the sixth and seventh parts cover the mechanisms of pulmonary hypertension. The text is recommended for basic scientists studying the lung and for clinicians such as cardiologists and pulmonologists. Those interested in the effects of alterations in lung function will also find this helpful.
