The Lord wants a connection with His people. He doesn't want us to do the work completely on our own, He doesn't want us to move ahead of him, and He does not want us to lag behind. He wants our cooperation in completing the work He has begun in us.When we lose our focus on Him and we try to fix the problem ourselves or we cannot see when He will fulfill His promise to us, so we move ahead of Him, thinking we are helping. All of a sudden we find ourselves in the middle of disasters, confusion, and bewilderment. It is at those very times when we let go that He then will reach down and pull us up. He can and will connect us back to Him when we let go of our plans and allow His plans to shine through you. It's our willingness to surrender ourselves for His purposes. This is a statement I read that sums it all up:The Lord has a great work to be done, and He will bequeath the most in the future life to those who do the most faithful, willing service in the present life. The Lord chooses His own agents, and each day under different circumstances, He gives them a trial in His plan of operation. In each truehearted endeavor to work out His plan, He chooses His agents, not because they are perfect but because, through a connection with Him, they may gain perfection. (BLJ 277.2)

Connection: The Easiest Solution to the World's Greatest Problem is a series of 36 conversations with Rabbi Asher Gottesman on the ways we can all reconnect--through what we believe, what we do, what we say, and what we embody--in order to find recovery, healing, and the lost art of human connection. Rabbi Asher Gottesman grew up surrounded by a family who loved him, a strong and loving Jewish community, and people who showed him that faith was everywhere. But as a young addict, Asher found that the more isolated he became, the easier it was to ignore the communities and connection around him. After recovering from his own addictions, Asher began to rebuild the connections around him - with his family, through his recovery community, and ultimately, with himself. And what he discovered was that connection is the most important tool we have against addiction, depression, and the terrifying feeling that we are all alone. Connection: The Easiest Solution to the World's Greatest Problem is a series of 36 conversations on the ways we can all reconnect--through what we believe, what we do, what we say, and what we embody. As a leader in the recovery movement, and with deep connections within the Jewish community, Rabbi Asher Gottesman has over 12k followers on social media and connections throughout business, film/TV, politics, and more. He has learned the hard way what disconnection feels like and what it can lead to - and has discovered through the power of connection, a world of healing, recovery, and hope. Connection explores how disconnection creeps in unnoticed, whether from early family dynamics or later social interactions and offers a hopeful message: reconnection is possible. With practical steps and a focus on grace and forgiveness, it guides readers on a journey to combat loneliness and rebuild a fulfilling life. Drawing on the author's experiences as a Jewish rabbi and addict in recovery, the book blends spiritual and secular wisdom to help everyone—regardless of faith or background—forge meaningful connections. Through this powerful book, readers will discover how to love yourself, embrace your life, and realize your powerful role in connecting everything and everyone.

Tim Walden’s photographic forte is capturing relationship images—emotionally resonant images that show the connection between subjects. To achieve this goal, he strives to proceed through a three-step portrait process: capture, adjust, and refine. He studies the clients and does not push the shutter button until he sees some magic unfold. If the clients are still “in the moment,” he may make a slight adjustment to the pose or lighting and capture a second, slightly varied image. If the subjects are still enthralled at that point, he will make a further refinement, producing a portrait that, in Tim’s mind, is the pinnacle shot—the dynamic, emotionally evocative, storytelling images he strives for. In this book, Tim presents over 60 images from some of his most memorable sessions, sharing with readers tips for capturing moments, enhancing the presentation, and truly amplifying the artistry of the capture to produce a fine-art image that will be cherished for generations.

This edited volume presents unique insights on sibling relationships in adulthood in the early 21st century, focusing on three themes: relations beyond childhood and school years; factors shaping social support provision between siblings; and changes in family life and how these impact sibling relations. Comprised of chapters from distinguished international family scholars, this book examines sibling dynamics across age, race, culture, gender, sexual orientation, geography, and social environments. It answers important questions such as, to what extent do siblings support each other at different stages of the life cycle? How do cultural practices and family obligations impact on sibling support? How does sibling support differ when looking at surrogates, migrant families, polygamous families, and siblings with disabilities? These contributions expand and contribute greatly to the field of sibling studies and will be of interest to all students and scholars studying and researching family relationships.

Questions regarding the origins, mobility, and effects of analytical concepts continue to emerge as anthropology endeavors to describe similarities and differences in social life around the world. Cutting and Connecting rethinks this comparative enterprise by calling in a conceptual debt that theoretical innovations from Melanesian anthropology owe to network analysis originally developed in African contexts. On this basis, the contributors adopt and employ concepts from recent studies of Melanesia to analyze contemporary life on the African continent and to explore how this exchange influences the borrowed anthropological perspectives. By focusing on ways in which networks are cut and connections are made, these empirical investigations show how particular relationships are created in today’s Africa. In addition, the volume aims for an approach that recasts relationships between theory and place and concepts and ethnography, in a manner that destabilizes the distinction between fieldwork and writing.

Genesis: A Theological Commentary for Preachers engages hermeneutics for preaching, employing theological exegesis that enables the preacher to utilize all the narrative units of the book to craft effective sermons. This commentary unpacks the crucial link between Scripture and application: the theology of each preaching text, i.e., what the author is doing with what he is saying. Genesis is thus divided into thirty-five narrative units and the theological focus of each is delineated. The overall theological trajectory/theme of the book--divine blessing: creating for blessing (Gen 1-11), moving towards blessing (Gen 12-24), experiencing the blessing (Gen 25-36), and being a blessing (Gen 37-50)--is thus progressively developed. The specificity of these theological ideas for their respective texts makes possible a sequential homiletical movement through each pericope of the book, enabling the expositor to discover valid application for sermons. While the primary goal of the commentary is to take the preacher from text to theology, it also provides two sermon outlines for each of the thirty-five units of Genesis. The unique approach of this work results in a theology-for-preaching commentary that promises to be useful for anyone teaching through Genesis with an emphasis on application.
