Opera breve ma straordinariamente densa, la "Cabala del cavallo pegaseo" è il quinto dei sei dialoghi composti da Bruno tra il 1584 e il 1585, durante il suo soggiorno inglese. In essa si intrecciano temi di grande rilievo teorico: la satira, aspra e sostenuta da puntuali riferimenti al testo biblico, nei confronti della "santa asinità" cristiana; la critica di alcuni aspetti della filosofia antica, in particolare nei confronti di Aristotele e di Sesto Empirico; l'insistenza su una concezione dell'uomo e della natura che capovolge la visione umanistica; l'idea della trasmigrazione delle anime. Ma la vera protagonista del dialogo è l'ignoranza, che nelle sue molteplici forme rappresenta il più pericoloso nemico del pensare e dell'agire umani.

The 13th-century Arabic grimoire, al-Sakkākī's Kitāb al-Shāmil (Book of the Complete), provides numerous methods of contacting jinn. The first such jinn described, Abū Isrā'īl Būzayn ibn Sulaymān, arrives with a donkey. In the course of offering an explanation for his ritual, this Element reveals the double-sided nature of asinine symbology, and explains why this animal has served as the companion of both demons and prophets. Focusing on two nodes of donkey symbology—the phallus and the bray-it reveals a coincidentia oppositorum in a deceptively humble and comic animal form. Thus, the donkey, bearer of a demonic voice, and of a phallus symbolic of base materiality, also represents transcendence of the material and protection from the demonic. In addition to Arabic literature and occult rituals, the Element refers to evidence from the ancient Near East, Egypt, and Greece, as well as to medieval Jewish and Christian texts.

Giordano Bruno (1548-1600) was a philosopher in his own right. However, he was famous through the centuries due to his execution as a heretic. His pronouncements against teachings of the Catholic Church, his defence of the cosmology of Nicholas Copernicus, and his provocative personality, all this made him a paradigmatic figure of modernity. Bruno’s way of philosophizing is not looking for outright solutions but rather for the depth of the problems; he knows his predecessors and their strategies as well as their weaknesses, which he exposes satirically. This introduction helps to identify the original thought of Bruno who proudly said about himself: “Philosophy is my profession!” His major achievements concern the creativity of the human mind studied through the theory of memory, the infinity of the world, and the discovery of atomism for modernity. He never held a permanent office within or without the academic world. Therefore, the way of thinking of this “Knight Errant of Philosophy” will be presented along the stations of his journey through Western Europe.
