With the skill of a master storyteller and the passion of a deep believer, Greeley contemplates questions at the heart of human life--is there any purpose in my life? Are there any grounds for hope? Why is there evil in the world?--and reveals how the symbols, rituals, teachings and mysteries of Catholicism both shape and respond to these profound uncertainties.

Scripture & the Mystery of the Mother of God will introduce you more deeply to Mary, the Mother of God, as your mother. Nine well-known Catholics, including Scott and Kimberly Hahn, Jeff Cavins, Tim Gray, and Leon Suprenant—open the pages of God’s family album (the Bible) to provide compelling explanations of Mary’s role in salvation history and in our daily lives as Christians. The result is a moving tribute and convincing testimony that demolishes common misconceptions about Catholic teaching on Mary. Includes material from Scott Hahn on the Luminous Mysteries and the biblical basis of the Marian Dogmas. You’ll learn why the Catholic Church teaches that Mary was immaculately conceived, remained always a virgin, and was assumed body and soul into heaven. You’ll understand how Mary is the fulfillment of the Old Testament images. Most of all, you’ll discover what it means to be a child of Mary in the Church. This book is one of four books in the Catholic for a Reason Series. Authors: Scott Hahn, Curtis A. Martin, Curtis J. Mitch, Tim Gray, Edward P. Sri, Leon J. Suprenant, Kimberly Hahn, Sean Innerst, and Jeff Cavins. Foreword by Bishop James S. Sullivan. About the Catholic for a Reason Series: This benchmark series brings together the expert knowledge and personal insight of today’s top Catholic apologists on topics at the heart of the Catholic faith. Whether you’re a non-Catholic who wants to learn about the Church’s teaching, or a Catholic who wants to become a more articulate defender of the faith, the Catholic for a Reason series is for you.

Introduction To The Mystery Of The Church written by Benoit-Dominique de La Soujeole, OP and has been published by CUA Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014 with Religion categories.

Introduction to the Mystery of the Church is an ecclesiological survey presenting a doctrinal synthesis of the Church. The author's intention is to propose an overview of this mystery in connection with the entirety of the Christian mystery. The book is divided into two major parts, the first presenting the foundations in the Bible and the tradition up to our day, and the second being an explanatory proposal introducing the reader to the Church's definition and personality and concluding with an exposition of the four properties enunciated in the Creed (one, holy, catholic, and apostolic). The value of this way of proceeding is first and foremost in the proposal of a synthesis that allows one to situate each question in its rightful place, such study being oriented toward a better overall grasp of the subject. As the title suggests, the book is an introduction that should allow the reader to apprehend the mystery in its internal coherence in order subsequently, with the aid of other texts, to be able to enter more deeply into the study of one or other specific point. While this ecclesiology treatise is written from a Catholic point of view, an ecumenical perspective is often present, either through the presentation of divergent views from other Christian confessions or through the proposal for a theological convergence.

And now, with the Church introducing revised language for the Mass, Catholics have a perfect opportunity to renew their understanding of this beautiful and beloved celebration. With eloquent prose and elegant black-and-white photography, bestselling authors Archbishop Donald Wuerl and Mike Aquilina guide readers through the different parts of the Mass, from the entrance procession to the blessing and dismissal, capturing the deep meaning of elements that are at once ordinary and mysterious: bread and wine, water and candles, altar cloths and ceremonial books. Step by step, they explain the specifics, such as the order of the Mass, the vessels used, the unique clothing worn, the prayers and responses, the postures and the gestures. Then they explore the rich historical, spiritual and theological background to each. Prayerful but practical, fact-filled but readable, The Mass prepares readers to participate more fully and appreciatively in the sacred rite at the heart of Catholic life.

In The Sacraments We Celebrate: A Catholic Guide to the Seven Mysteries of Faith, the second book in the Pillars of Faith series, Msgr. Peter J. Vaghi introduces the seven sacraments of the Catholic Church. Drawing from the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the U.S. Catholic Catechism for Adults, and the writings of Benedict XVI and John Paul II, Msgr. Vaghi's easy-to-use resource considers each of the sacraments from a personal, communal, and social perspective. The chapters explore the sacraments as a whole and examine the scriptural foundation, the history, and the symbolism of each. At a time when Mass attendance, Confession, and the celebration of Catholic weddings are all declining, the clarity and accessibility of Msgr. Peter Vaghi's writing on the meaning of these celebrations, complemented by questions for reflection and prayer, makes The Sacraments We Celebrate a vital resource for any Catholic seeking to understand these central actions of the faith.

Pope John Paul II's purpose in introducing the Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary was to encourage meditation on those events of Jesus' public life that were missing from the more familiar and traditional mysteries. As the Pope explained, 'It is during the years of his public ministry that the mystery of Christ is most evidently a mystery of light: "While I am in the world, I am the light of the world"' (John 9:5). It was also his hope that the new mysteries would give fresh life to the practice of this devotion within the Catholic Church. This book of reflections on each of the Mysteries of Light is intended for those who pray the rosary but will also be useful for those who do not. Skillfully blending texts from Old and New Testaments, as well as the author's extensive experience of pilgrimage in the Holy Land, the book helps us reflect on the events of the life of Jesus and how those mysteries of his life connect with our own. 'It is my hope that this little book will help many people to enter more fully into these new mysteries and the relevant events of the life of Christ. I am confident that it will benefit not only their understanding but also their spiritual life.' (From the Foreword by Cardinal George Pell).

Mystery Of The Church written by Paul Haffner and has been published by Gracewing Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007 with Religion categories.

Mystery of the Church presents a global picture of the main themes of current ecclesiology. First, it deals with the institution of the Church and her essential nature. Subsequently the four hallmarks of the Church are described. Her unity and holiness are guaranteed by the sanctity of Christ her Head despite the sinfulness of her members. The catholicity of the Church is also examined from the perspective of Eastern Christendom. The apostolicity of the Church leads to a description of the Petrine Office. The Church is seen as the instrument of salvation, and her relationship with the State and with science is investigated. Finally the Church is pictured as leading to the Kingdom of God. This is the fifth volume of Fr Paul Haffner's systematic exposition of theology - previously published volumes in this series: Mystery of Creation, The Mystery of Mary, The Mystery of Reason, The Sacramental Mystery. Paul Haffner is a priest and professor of theology at Regina Apostolorum University in Rome, visiting professor at the Pontifical Gregorian University, and adjunct lecturer at Duquesne University Roman Campus.
