Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2021 im Fachbereich BWL - Handel und Distribution, Hochschule Fulda, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: In this work the author examines the retail sector in Germany to provide an overview of the reasons for change, potential challenges, and future predictions. During the research, it was found that very many reports exist around the topic and digitalization is a trending topic in retail. Furthermore, a study is covered that illustrates the shift in values from a consumer perspective. The goal is to better prepare for the needs of customers. In this study the question should be answered, with which strategic measures the retailers must deal in the future to remain competitive. The highly specialized and industrialized society is undergoing massive changes due to digitalization. The high level of digitalization and the technical capabilities of machines are opening new opportunities. The productivity development of the last centuries shows that the economy is currently in a particularly challenging phase. This development is particularly due to the widespread internet connectivity through e.g., smartphones, large storage capacities and technologies such as cloud or analytics that new applications and business opportunities can be implemented. In the retail sector, the question now arises on which facts the change in retail is built and on which the future of retail depends.

Seminar paper from the year 2015 in the subject Business economics - Offline Marketing and Online Marketing, grade: 1,7, Sophia Antipolis Campus (France); SKEMA Business School, language: English, abstract: The German retailer REWE Markt emphasizes digital innovation in their business strategy to optimize its supply chain efficiency and to be first in new innovative solutions that attract customers in- and off-store, off- and online. The following paper addresses digital innovation practices of REWE Markt over the past years as well as its role within the retail industry that it takes in digital terms. For 2016, one can expect new dynamics in the retail business in Europe. Amazon announced in 2015 to introduce Amazon Fresh in some European countries. Its online shopping service for fresh grocery will include delivery times less than twenty-four hours after putting the order. Competitors reactions have been for instance improved delivery times of only few hours after the order to outperform Amazon in advance. E-commerce is merely one of the big digital issues where retailers are forced to invest. Connected with that is also a great logistic chain that has to be digitally coordinated in order to keep track on the demand and crowds of data that have to be processed. Furthermore, there are efforts to develop digital in-store solutions for an improved shopping experience. In the past years, big traditional retail players have missed the chance to develop accordingly to the pace of technological developments. Now where non-traditional retail companies such as Amazon expand into grocery offerings as well as extent their logistical facilities, they are finally in their wake-up mode and grow their efforts to innovate digitally as this is a key competitive factor.

Master's Thesis from the year 2015 in the subject Business economics - Banking, Stock Exchanges, Insurance, Accounting, grade: 1.3, Technical University of Munich (School of Management), course: Innovation and Business Creation, language: English, abstract: The impact of the financial crisis was a challenge for international and German banks and a test for the robustness of their business models. The consequences were stricter financial regulations introduced by Basel III and banks were forced to reduce proprietary trading and to refocus on traditional core banking business. Today supervisory authorities require sufficient and appropriate risk management systems to ensure financial stability and thus the internal operational complexity has increased and generates additional costs. In the aftermath of the financial crisis some banks are still struggling to regain competitiveness in combination with diminishing margins. In particular those banks are challenged with high dependency from interest income by deposit-financed retail banking business. In recent years financial technology companies, commonly known as FinTech, gained more importance in the financial industry and challenge banks and established business models. Digitisation is advancing in all industries and the music and media industry has already experienced a painful transformation process and a similar development is expected as well for the financial industry. Depending on how revolutionary the technological innovation is the more intense will be the impact on business models and in consequence fast adaptability is essential. The level of activity within FinTech is enormous at the moment in Germany and over one hundred new companies were launched in 2014. As a consequence digital business models are analysed with respect to core competences and how FinTech generates benefits for customers by improving the value with innovative digital solutions.

The term digital transformation and the effects of digitization on the entire value chain will be explained and illustrated using the example of Zalando. Over the last few years, the effects of digitization have become more and more perceptible in the daily lives of fashion consumers. New technologies and globalization open up new ways to consumption, production and commerce and have fundamentally changed the consumer behaviour. Therefore, fashion companies need to adapt and transform their business strategies. This is necessary in order to be able to stand up to new challenges, take advantage of the opportunities offered by digitization and ensure sustainable corporate success. So far, innovations are being tested in many areas, but few of the major fashion brands have managed a complete digital transformation in all areas of their value chain.

This book presents developments and future trends in e-commerce, which is shaped by customers' new digital communication and consumption patterns. Gerrit Heinemann sheds light on e-commerce business models, channel excellence as well as success factors such as digital time advantages and customer centricity. He analyzes the digital challenges and highlights the consequences and opportunities associated with online commerce. Recognized best practices illustrate how successful digital commerce works and what the "lessons learned" of the past years are. The 13th edition describes which new approaches will shape the future of online retail and which developments will remain long-term issues. While, for example, app and smartphone commerce, including mobile payment, continue to be long-running issues, the environmental issue is coming at online commerce with a concentrated charge. This means that people's growing need for more sustainability and consideration for the environment has now also arrived in e-commerce. This work is therefore devoted to sustainable e-commerce in the context of online logistics, which runs counter to the new trend towards quick commerce. The topics of climate neutrality and returns management are also increasingly coming into focus. In addition, current topics such as the marketplace theme and social commerce will be explored in greater depth. Furthermore, numerous new legal requirements are taken into account, which place increased obligations on marketplace operators in particular. The content - Meta-targeting and business ideas in online retailing - Business model of online trade - Forms of online trade - Business systems and benchmarks in e-commerce - Best practices and risks in online retailing

Digitalization is one of the biggest challenges of the 21st Century. In Germany, the concept of Industry 4.0 goes back to the high-tech strategy of the Federal Government and describes the interlocking of industrial production with the latest information and communication technology. In the intelligent factory, intelligent and networked machines will operate, decide and optimize largely autonomously in cooperation with humans. For China, the German concept Industry 4.0 is a strategic source of inspiration. Among other things, it was a model for the current Chinese innovation and industrial policy strategy Made in China 2025. This book is looking into different aspects of digitalization. Part 1 presents the concept of Industry 4.0, both, from the German and the Chinese perspective. Part 2 describes the Chinese innovation concept Made in China 2025 within different economic sectors in China and discusses to what extent Industry 4.0 might be considered its role model. Part 3 presents the opportunities and challenges of digitalization and big data from a regional perspective. Part 4 analyses the special aspect of the impacts of digitalization for the banking sector and international trade cooperation. Finally, Part 5 focuses on digitalization and innovation considering small and medium-sized companies in particular.

Master's Thesis from the year 2019 in the subject Business economics - E-Commerce, grade: 1.3, Fresenius University of Applied Sciences Köln, course: The critical study of food retailers vs. wholesalers, language: English, abstract: Various companies are working to manage digitization and its effects, and it is essential that they find the right way of thinking about this. However, many do not understand even the most basic steps of the process, which leads to development problems. To drive development, it is necessary to change one’s way of approaching this issue. The aim of this research was to identify the weaknesses, strengths, dangers, and trends in the market and those measures, potentials, and steps to changing one’s way of thinking to advance digitization in Germany. With this in mind, the following research question was posed: to what extent do the weaknesses, strengths, dangers, fears, potentials and trends in backward digitization in Germany depend on one another? To answer the research question, personal interviews were conducted, alongside original research and interviews with renowned companies. The interviewees were divided into three groups: manufacturers, wholesalers, and food retailers. The interview partners were sought from throughout Germany. Each group had an adapted questionnaire. The questions were divided into three categories: weaknesses; potential dangers, fears; and potentials, strengths and trends. Problems were clearly identified in all three categories that can be traced back to the greatest weakness in Germany at the moment: mindset. All three groups are evidently influenced by this weakness, with progress in digitization increasingly falling behind. On this basis, the findings of this study indicate that it is advisable to hire younger employees, purchase entire teams, support start-up promotions in the company, and renew the own views of the entire topic. Further research could consider renewal of the own views of the individual components.
