The Author commends the chapter upon the Chinese Language to the special attention of the reader. It is not easy to be very interesting or very popular in treating a subject so far removed from the ordinary range of investiga tion; still he thinks that the man who has a taste for philological researches, will find principles stated in it that are worthy of his best consideration, and a mode of dealing with the Chinese language suggested, which will ultimately unravel all the absurdities adhering to that or any other tongue. In the chapters on Music and Philosophy some curious matters are given, which will scarcely fail to call up a train of ideas and reflections in those who delight to trace the records of science as it existed in its primeval simplicity.
