Reverend Frederick Robert Smith (1854-1917), was a Wesleyan Methodist minister who wrote popular tales of Lancashire working-class folk under the pen name John Ackworth. He was a notable author in the Lancashire dialect. Ackworth's tales while not overtly religious, adhere strictly to the beliefs, the dogmatism and the ways of life of a close-knit rural Methodist community. As a preacher, he was described as striking, original, fearless, thought-provoking, and conscience-stirring. In 1896, he achieved great success with his first book, Clog Shop Chronicles. His other works include: Beckside Lights (1897), The Scowcroft Critics (1898), Doxie Dent: A Clog- Shop Chronicle (1899), The Mangle House: A Lancashire Tale (1902), From Crooked Roots (1903), Old Wenyon's Will (1904) and The Partners (1907).

The Heart Of John Wesley S Journal written by John Wesley and has been published by Hendrickson Publishers this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-10 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

Spanning some fifty-five years, John Wesley recorded his daily experiences in studying, teaching, preaching, and traveling throughout England and then America in the eighteenth century. These selections present an engrossing portrait of Wesley during the course of his travels and evangelistic activities, illuminating the preacher's views and opinions on a host of contemporary matters. Wesley's eclectic interests and passion for rational analysis also make his journal a rich source for any reader interested in observing the conditions and values of society--particularly those of the lower classes--through the eyes of a well-educated and intelligent gentleman of the time. John Wesley (1703-1791) was an eighteenth-century Anglican clergyman and Christian theologian who was the founder of the Methodist movement. Methodism had three rises, the first at Oxford University with the founding of the so-called "Holy Club," the second while Wesley was parish priest in Savannah, Georgia, and the third in London after Wesley's return to England. The movement took form from its third rise in the early 1740s when Wesley, along with others, began itinerant field preaching and subsequently founded religious societies for the formation of believers. This was the first widely successful evangelical movement in Britain. Hendrickson Classic Biographies feature enduring stories about real people whose lives have been touched and transformed by God, and who in turn have touched others with God's love. Each story has been carefully selected, gently edited if necessary, and freshly typeset, making every account--be it ancient or contemporary--a compelling read. Great lives reaching across the ages to touch lives today, encouraging, challenging, and inspiring.
