The purpose of this study was to evaluate the correlation between happiness, religion and spirituality. More specifically, which had a greater correlation with happiness - religion or spirituality? It was hypothesized that spirituality would have a greater correlation with happiness than religion. In total 44 participants completed 5 brief self-report surveys designed to measure religious actions as well as religious beliefs, life satisfaction, well-being; and the strenght of religious faith regardless of religious denomination or affiliation. The results obtained by this study did not support the hypothesis. The correlation between spirituality and personal well-being, spirituality and satisfaction with life, religion and person well-being, as well as religion and satisfaction with life, all failed to reach significance. However, the correlations between satisfaction with life and personal well-being and between religion and spirituality, did reach significance, which was to be expected due to thier overlappying constructs. Future research should consider stratifying the sample by religious affiliation.

Religious And Non Religious Perspectives On Happiness And Wellbeing written by Sharada Sugirtharajah and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-04-26 with Religion categories.

This book explores the theme of happiness and well-being from religious, spiritual, philosophical, psychological, humanistic, and health perspectives. Taking a non-binary approach, it considers how happiness in particular has been understood and appropriated in religious and non-religious strands of thought. The chapters offer incisive insight from a variety of perspectives, including humanism, atheism and major religions such as Christianity, Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Judaism. Together they demonstrate that although worldviews might vary substantially, there are concurrences across religious and non-religious perspectives on happiness that provide a common ground for further cross-cultural and interreligious exploration. What the book makes clear is that happiness is not a static or monolithic category. It is an ongoing process of being and becoming, striving and seeking, living ethically and meaningfully, as well as arriving at a tranquil state of being. This multifaceted volume makes a fresh contribution to the contemporary study of happiness and is valuable reading for scholars and students from religious studies and theology, including those interested in interreligious dialogue and the psychology of religion, as well as positive psychology.

God is great—for your mental, physical, and spiritual health. Based on new evidence culled from brain-scan studies, a wide-reaching survey of people’s religious and spiritual experiences, and the authors’ analyses of adult drawings of God, neuroscientist Andrew Newberg and therapist Mark Robert Waldman offer the following breakthrough discoveries: • Not only do prayer and spiritual practice reduce stress, but just twelve minutes of meditation per day may slow down the aging process. • Contemplating a loving God rather than a punitive God reduces anxiety and depression and increases feelings of security, compassion, and love. • Fundamentalism, in and of itself, can be personally beneficial, but the prejudice generated by extreme beliefs can permanently damage your brain. • Intense prayer and meditation permanently change numerous structures and functions in the brain, altering your values and the way you perceive reality. Both a revelatory work of modern science and a practical guide for readers to enhance their physical and emotional health, How God Changes Your Brain is a first-of-a-kind book about faith that is as credible as it is inspiring.

This volume arose out of a deep concern to assist people in their struggle to lead a flourishing life. Fractured, stressed, relationally broken and spiritually empty people may instinctively reach for the supposed panacea of happiness. But happiness is often a transitory state. More stable and worthwhile than the pursuit of happiness is leading a flourishing life. But what is flourishing? Is spirituality necessary for human flourishing and, if so, in what ways might spirituality provide a unique and important contribution to flourishing? The volume provides complementary yet diverse accounts of human flourishing. Each account argues that spirituality in general, and Christian spirituality in particular, are vital contributors to flourishing. The volume will be valuable for those who are dissatisfied with popular hedonistic approaches to flourishing. Such people are ready for a change in approach, but often do not have a clear alternative in view. The Volume will provide a clear alternative to popular culture‘s representation of the flourishing person, which is largely vested in conspicuous consumption. The book will also be valuable for those who have considered alternatives to popular culture, but who lack an informed basis on which to evaluate these alternatives. Finally, the book will be valuable for those who are committed to Christian spirituality but may not appreciate the rich resources which Christian faith offers for human flourishing. Amongst the latter group are included Christian leaders such as priests and pastors, voluntary church workers and lay people who may or may not be involved in formal religion but who long to flourish in their own lives and to enable others to do the same.

You are not happy. You may enjoy periods of relative happiness and you may be happier than other people that you know, but you are not as happy as you'd like to be or as happy as you can be. How do I know? First of all, if you were completely satisfied with your life you wouldn't be holding this book in your hands right now. Second, it is very rare to find people that are in touch with certain realities regarding their existence that lead to lasting happiness. Spiritual Realism works in two ways. First, it will challenge the way you think about yourself and your personal reality construct, or in simpler terms, what you think is real. Your illusions need to be shattered in order to achieve the bliss that you desire, yet has been eluding you for so long. Second, this book will teach you a series of techniques that will make you happier and more content with your life if you practice them sincerely over an extended period of time. Spiritual Realism works. It cannot fail to work. Good luck! IMPORTANT NOTE: If you have strong religious beliefs you will likely find views in this book disturbing.

A Master's Manual for Spiritual Awakening You are a spiritual master, and you may not know it. This is your manual. It was created for you, by you. This, too, you may not know right now, but soon you will . . . Neale Donald Walsch not only tells us how we can make it through the week in these tough times, he shows us how we can face each day overflowing with joy and optimism. The good news, he tells us, is that each of us was meant to be happy - happier than god! Walsch's warm and soothing words encourage the reader to look for the hidden resources that are deep inside each of us. He shows how each of us have the power within us to manifest everything we need and want. This is not a book of spiritual theory. It provides a plan that can change lives. Included here is a programme that Walsch calls '17 Steps to being Happier Than God', a plan that combines the best of the conceptual truths of his 10-book Conversations with God series with the clearest description yet of how to turn those concepts into practical tools for altering life for the better - forever.
