What happens when society pushes a man too far?Bill had worked hard his whole life. He was proud of what he had accomplished. He was proud of where he was in life. Society disagreed. Bill wanted nothing more than to live his life in peace. Unfortunately for him, society never stopped twisting the cruel dagger of fate into his wounded chest. At work, Bill constantly strove to achieve his absolute best. Nobody was perfect but one should strive for it nonetheless. However, everybody else misinterpreted this noble pursuit as a nuisance. At leisure, Bill just could not rekindle the happiness he experienced in his younger years. Instead, life was like a colourless painting of a graveyard. The graveyard of his hopes and dreams. No matter what he did, Bill was left feeling worse than when he started. Each time society provoked him, he felt his fuse get shorter... and shorter. Society kept pushing, and pushing, and pushing... It did not care, it did not take responsibility. Just how far was society going to keep pushing? Was there a limit to how bad things could get? There was no hope. The light at the end of the tunnel was merely an incoming train. Such was life. The Cruellest Joke.

Mckenzie Shaw lived a simple and uneventful life. She'd always felt ordinary - always one to follow the straight and narrow, and never one to take chances. She worked hard and tried to have some fun along the way, but when it came down to it, her career always came first. That all changed one weekend while visiting her best friend Maggie in upstate New York. Little did Kenzie know that life as she knew it would be turned upside down the day she pulled into the Hainsworth Farm Market along the country road that summer day. A chance encounter with a deliciously hot country boy named Jase would change her world and unravel every fiber of her being. Their connection would run deep but distance and her career would never allow it to become anything more. Or would love have a different plan for her?

The Game Of Humor written by Charles R. Gruner and has been published by Routledge this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2017-07-05 with Social Science categories.

Humor, wit, and laughter surround each person. From everyday quips to the carefully contrived comedy of literature, newspapers, and television we experience humor in many forms, yet the impetus for our laughter is far from innocuous. Misfortune, stupidity, and moral or cultural defects, however faintly revealed in others and ourselves, seem to make us laugh. Although discomforting, such negative terms as superiority, aggression, hostility, ridicule, or degradation can be applied to instances of humor. According to scholars, Thomas Hobbes's "superiority theory"?that humor arises from mischances, infirmities, and indecencies, where there is no wit at all?applies to most humor. With the exception of good-natured play, Charles R. Gruner claims that humor is rarely as innocent as it first appears.Gruner's proposed superiority theory of humor is all-encompassing. In The Game of Humor, he expands the scope of Hobbes's theory to include and explore the contest aspect of "good-natured" play. As such, the author believes all instances of humor can be examined as games, in terms of competition and keeping score?winners and losers. Gruner draws on a broad spectrum of thought-provoking examples. Holocaust jokes, sexual humor, the racialist dialogue of such comic characters as Stepin Fetchit and Archie Bunker, simple puns, and many of the author's own encounters with everyday humor. Gruner challenges the reader to offer a single example of humor that cannot be "de-humorized" by its agonistic nature. The Game of Humor makes intriguing and enjoyable reading for people interested in humor and the aspects of human motivation. This book will also be valuable to professionals in communication and information studies, sociologists, literary critics and linguists, and psychologists concerned with the conflicts and tensions of everyday life.

Rationale Of The Dirty Joke written by G. Legman and has been published by Simon and Schuster this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2007-11-01 with Humor categories.

Why do people tell dirty jokes? And what is it about a joke's dirtiness that makes it funny? G. Legman was perhaps the foremost scholar of the dirty joke, and as legions of humor writers and comedians know, his Rationale of the Dirty Joke remains the most exhaustive and authoritative study of the subject. More than two thousand jokes and folktales are presented, covering such topics as The Female Fool, The Fortunate Fart, Mutual Mismatching, and The Sex Machine. These folk texts are authentically transcribed in their innocent and sometimes violent entirety. Legman studies each for its historical and socioanalytic significance, revealing what these jokes mean to the people who tell them and to the people who listen and laugh. Here -- back in print -- is the definitive text for comedians and humor writers, Freudian scholars and late night television enthusiasts. Rationale of the Dirty Joke will amuse you, offend you, challenge you, and disgust you, all while demonstrating the intelligence and hilarity of the dirty joke.

Good Humor Bad Taste written by Giselinde Kuipers and has been published by Walter de Gruyter this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2011-12-22 with Humor categories.

Good Humor, Bad Taste is the first extensive sociological study of the relationship between humor and social background. Using a combination of interview materials, survey data, and historical materials, the book explores the relationship between humor and gender, age, regional background, and especially, humor and social class in the Netherlands. The final chapter focuses on national differences, exploring the differences between the American and the Dutch sense of humor, again using a combination of interview and survey materials. The starting point for this exploration of differences in sense of humor is one specific humorous genre: the joke. The joke is not a very prestigious genre; in the Netherlands even less so than in the US. It is precisely this lack of status that made it a good starting point for asking questions about humor and taste. Interviewees generally had very pronounced opinions about the genre, calling jokes "their favorite kind humor", but also "completely devoid of humor" and "a form of intellectual poverty". Good Humor, Bad Taste attempts to explain why jokes are good humor to some, bad taste to others. The focus on this one genre enables Good Humor, Bad Taste to have a very wide scope. The book not only covers the appreciation and evaluation of jokes by different social groups and in different cultures, and its relationship with wider humor styles. It also describes the genre itself: the history of the genre, its decline in status from the sixteenth century onward, and the way the topics and the tone of jokes have changed over the last fifty years of the twentieth century.
