They told me I was sick, that they were here to help. They told all of us that we needed their medicine. It doesn't help though, their medicine, it kills. It's a serum, a cuff, a life spent in poverty-infested valleys, it's poison. Most of us don't survive their medicine, their torture. We didn't choose to be like this, to be born different. We didn't choose to have unnatural abilities. We're not damned like they say we are, at least, I don't think we are. The elites control our world because my kind is evil, born of a different species. The trench is full of damned and normals living together, hiding from each other. Everyone here has a lineage that traces to some damned ancestor, thus why I'm here. I don't blame my ancestors; they didn't choose to be damned, just as how I didn't either. Not all damned are dangerous, so they tell us. The only damned to raise suspicion are the seekers and stats. The only ones that are killed onsite, just like my family. I'm a normal, I'm a damned, I'm a soul in a body that plays pretend. I can't escape my lethal destiny, that's what they tell me. Those foolish enough to leave are executed, put on trial for the rest of us to see. The only way to escape is through death, or so I thought.

MEDIEVAL MYSTERY: On a remote East Anglian coast stands Tyndal Priory, home to a rare monastic order where men and women live and work together in close proximity. Twenty-year-old Eleanor of Wynethorpe has been appointed prioress by Henry III over the elected choice of the priory itself. Young and inexperienced, Eleanor will face a grave struggle – in a place dedicated to love and peace, she will find little of either. JUSTICE FOR THE DAMNED: May 1272: Recovering from a near-fatal winter fever, Eleanor visits her aunt at Amesbury Priory, who asks her to investigate a ghost people claim is haunting Amesbury. When a local man is found beheaded, Eleanor realizes she's dealing with a human killer, not an otherworldly spirit and strives to unravel the truth from the rumours, lies and foiled passions of the townsfolk and the nuns and monks of the priory alike. And strive she must, for Death's scythe is still sharp and its harvest is far from over.

Lieutenant Sven Tveskoeg is in disgrace. His victory on Hekati, and the emperor's favour, have turned his patron against him: General Indigo Jaxx wants Sven dead. Exiled to Wildeside, Sven waits for Jaxx's assassin. He hunts, he fieldstrips his weapons, he tries not to mind. At the age of 28, he's lived longer than he expected anyway. But then Sven finds himself offering to save the life of Jaxx's son. This means returning to Farlight, where he finds that the emperor is missing, his empire is collapsing, there are murderous riots in the capital and General Jaxx stands on the edge of ruin. All Sven has to do is nothing. But when has he ever done anything that sensible... The devil-may-care, not quite 100% human, mercenary soldier/killing machine known as Lieutenant Sven Tveskoeg and his like-minded team, the Aux, are back in a third explosive, non-stop action-filled adventure.

The “extraordinary” true story of the St. Louis, a German ship that, in 1939, carried Jews away from Hamburg—and into an unimaginable ordeal (The New York Times). On May 13, 1939, the luxury liner St. Louis sailed from Hamburg, one of the last ships to leave Nazi Germany before World War II erupted. Aboard were 937 Jews—some had already been in concentration camps—who believed they had bought visas to enter Cuba. The voyage of the damned had begun. Before the St. Louis was halfway across the Atlantic, a power struggle ensued between the corrupt Cuban immigration minister who issued the visas and his superior, President Bru. The outcome: The refugees would not be allowed to land in Cuba. In America, the Brown Shirts were holding Nazi rallies in Madison Square Garden; anti-Semitic Father Coughlin had an audience of fifteen million. Back in Germany, plans were being laid to implement the final solution. And aboard the St. Louis, 937 refugees awaited the decision that would determine their fate. Gordon Thomas and Max Morgan Witts have re-created history in this meticulous reconstruction of the voyage of the St. Louis. Every word of their account is true: the German High Command’s ulterior motive in granting permission for the “mission of mercy;” the confrontations between the refugees and the German crewmen; the suicide attempts among the passengers; and the attitudes of those who might have averted the catastrophe, but didn’t. In reviewing the work, the New York Times was unequivocal: “An extraordinary human document and a suspense story that is hard to put down. But it is more than that. It is a modern allegory, in which the SS St. Louis becomes a symbol of the SS Planet Earth. In this larger sense the book serves a greater purpose than mere drama.”

Perspectives Of Roman Poetry written by Karl Galinsky and has been published by University of Texas Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2012-02-01 with Literary Criticism categories.

Written by leading specialists, the essays in Perspectives of Roman Poetry seek to provide a broad range of readers with a good understanding of some essential aspects of major Roman poets and poetic genres. The value of the essays is enhanced, for comparative purposes, by their extensive reference to modern authors. such as Shakespeare and Tolkien. For the modern reader, Latin quotations are accompanied by effective English translations. The essays and their authors are as follows: "The Woman's Role in Latin Love Poetry," by Georg Luck "Autobiography and Art in Horace," by William S. Anderson "Some Trees in Virgil and Tolkien," by Kenneth J. Reckford "The Business of Roman Comedy," by Erich Segal "Ovid's Metamorphosis of Myth," by G. Karl Galinsky The preface and concluding panel discussion illumine the situation of literary criticism inthe classics and point out the need for diversity. Perspectives of Roman Poetry resulted from a symposium held at the University of Texas at Austin in 1972. These essays offer different and, in some cases, heterodox interpretations that will serve as a basis for future discussions.
