The fascinating lives and turbulent times of Henry Lawson and Andrew 'Banjo' Paterson - the two men who wrote Australia's story. Today most of us know that Henry Lawson and Andrew 'Banjo' Paterson were famous writers. We know about Matilda, Clancy of the Overflow and the Man from Snowy River; The Drover's Wife, While the Billy Boils and Joe Wilson and his mates, but little else. Here, in a compelling and engaging work, James Knight brings Henry and Banjo's own stories to life. And there is much to tell. Both were country born, just three years and three hundred kilometres apart, Henry on the goldfields of Grenfell and Banjo on a property near Orange, but their paths to literary immortality took very different routes - indeed at times their lives were ones of savage and all too tragic contrasts. Banjo, born into a life of comparative privilege, would rise from country boy to Sydney Grammar student, solicitor, journalist, war correspondent and revered man about town. Henry's formal education only began when his feminist mother finally won her battle for a local school but illness and subsequent deafness would make continuing his lessons difficult, seeing him find work as a labourer, a coach painter and a journalist, all the while wrestling with poverty, alcoholism and mental illness. Both men would become household names during their lifetimes. Both would have regrets. Henry and Banjo details two incredibly fascinating lives and delves into the famous (and not so famous) writings of the two men who had the power to influence and change Australia.

When a genetic condition meets an addiction, life becomes difficult for a middle class mid-western girl. The Story Of A Sunday's Child is the true story of such an encounter. After becoming a young adult Stevie finds that her learning problems and physical traces on her body are the result of a genetic condition called Neurofibromatosis. When Stevie tells her fiancée about her problems she expects to be rejected but instead he is sympathetic. Unfortunately he turns out to be a high functioning alcoholic. Stevie watches helplessly as her marriage and her appearance become increasingly influenced by these two factors. It's the story of learning to live with something that cannot be changed; then finding the courage to leave a marriage gone aground on alcoholism. Nothing is sugar coated. Stevie's story is bluntly honest. It is not a "how I learned to live with" type of book. Many questions remain unresolved at the end of the narrative.

He is employed on a farm to aid food production but when his best friend is lost, believed killed, he feels compelled to join the RAF. Trained as a navigator and assigned to a Catalina seaplane with Coastal Command in Scotland, his work entails protection from submarine and airborne attack of the convoys bringing supplies across the Atlantic. Wandering Heart A Gay Man S Journey written by John Loomis M.D. and has been published by iUniverse this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-02-04 with Biography & Autobiography categories.

John Loomis grew up in a small South Texas town during the last days of the Great Depression and World War II. As an only child, and with disturbed parents, he was isolated from his peers. Growing up shy, bookish, and knowing from a very early age that he was different in some unacceptable way, he was very distressed to find out from the high school library that he was gay. There was no one to turn to for help or information. He thought the only other gay person on earth was Andre Gide, the great French writer, but he was too far away to visit. Feeling alone, but not lonely, he went on to college and medical school, and after that did psychiatric training and opened an office in New York City. Gradually, he made peace with being gay and began a search for love, which led to many adventures, disasters, happiness, and heartbreak. After inheriting the family business, he was torn between it and his medical practice. He developed alcoholism, the family disease, and was also troubled by recurrent depressions. Beginning his recovery from alcoholism in 1977, he has been able to construct a generally happy life.
