This tiny booklet is meant to highlight the nature of theological dialogue between two middle managers, one representing the Pakistani Taliban faction and the other representing the ISI (Pakistani Inter-services Intelligence). Pakistani Taliban are an offshoot of the Afghani Taliban which the ISI had armed and nurtured to take control of Afghanistan in the vacuum left by the withdrawal of the Russian Army. The dialogue is my translation of a dialogue captured in two videos given below, in Urdu taken probably during the first operation against the Pakistani Taliban in the Tribal Areas. What makes the confrontation extremely engaging is because both protagonists are well versed in Islamic and national history of Pakistan. Constantly during the dialogue the ISI Handler seems to be reaching out to the rebellious Talibani leader by giving him an olive branch over and over again. The Talibani leader on his part comes across as mocking and deriding his former master, repeatedly rejecting all conciliatory efforts of the former partners. This dialogue should be listened by all Urdu listeners as the translation below cannot do complete justice to the very interesting and logical dialogue. I believe that the Talibani theology represents a very rigid form of Islamic thought which simply believes that all the world belongs to Allah as he is the absolute master, and that all creatures are His slaves, and that the Qur'an represents His law which is incumbent on all of His slaves. Actually, this definition is pretty common across most Islamic strands, the real difference with the Talibani theology is that they believe that anyone not following the letter of Qur'an, automatically becomes an apostate (Murtid) thus an enemy of Islam. They therefore thus justify their war against the 'Islamic Republic of Pakistan'. Another observation I made is that the particular Islamic historical events mentioned in the dialogue below are not well known among the majority popular brand of Sunni Islam. Talibans also consider themselves to be Sunni but they seem to use certain contentious aspects of Islamic history like the Masjid al-Dirar event as an analogy (dalil), which is rarely discussed almost unknown among most practising Sunni Muslims. The Taliban therefore, have been able to forge together a variant of Islamic theology without any known Ulema, or extensive literature of their own. Instead they tend to quote these neglected or greyed events from the Islamic history as proofs of their actions, justifying suicide bombings, arbitrary killing of their enemies whether Muslim or non-Muslim, to great effect. The Taliban seem to have embraced end-justifies-the-means strand employed within Islam right from the time of the Prophet and still used today by all current Islamic movements of today. Within Islam there is no real centralised canonical order akin to Catholics in Rome or Protestants with their Church of England, which leaves the field wide open for any Muslim scholar to start churning out fatwas (religious injunctions) in huge numbers. Just a cursory glance in some of the scholars mentioned in the dialogue below roughly reveal around 2000 fatwas per scholar, which is a pretty high number to control. Such a high amount of fatwa churn provides ample resource for anyone to justify their actions, which I hope will be pretty obvious for anyone reading the dialogue below. As the dialogue is accessible on the internet, I shall try and provide all references from the WWW by asking Sheikh Google in blue, details of link are given at the end of the dialogue.

"The Prophetic traditions of Islam, which are commonly referred to as the hadiths (literally: 'reports'), preserve the sum and substance of the utterances, deeds, directives, and descriptive anecdotes connected with the life of the Prophet Muhammad and his Companions. Together with the Qur'an, the hadiths provide the religion of Islam with its principal scriptural sources. The collection features an accessible and informative introduction which presents an outline of the significance of the hadiths within the religious tradition while also reviewing classical scholarship devoted to the literature of the traditions; moreover, the introduction decisively sets into context the academic debates and arguments which are fleshed out in the articles selected. It also charts developments in the academic study of hadiths, summing up the current state of the field and features a detailed bibliography listing primary classical sources germane to the field of Prophetic traditions together with recent research monographs and articles devoted to the subject. This Major Work provides an authoritative collection of the seminal research articles produced by western academic scholarship on the subject of the hadith over the past century, including recent papers on the subject. In bringing together the finest examples of scholarship devoted to the hadith and the classical literature that surrounds it, these volumes provide an indispensable reference resource for academics, research institutions, governmental organizations, and those with a general interest in Arabic and Islamic Studies, Religious Studies, Arabic Cultural Studies, and Middle East History." -- Publisher description.

The current view among Western scholars of Islam concerning the early development of Islamic jurisprudence was shaped by Joseph Schacht’s famous study on the subject published 50 years ago. Since then new sources became available which make a critical review of his theories possible and desirable. This volume uses one of these sources to reconstruct the development of jurisprudence at Mecca, virtually unknown until now, from the beginnings until the middle of the second Islamic century. New methods of analysis are developed and tested in order to date the material contained in the earliest compilations of legal traditions more properly. As a result the origins of Islamic jurisprudence can be dated much earlier than claimed by Schacht and his school.

Changes In Jihadi Discourse In The Wake Of The Islamic State written by Christina Hartmann and has been published by Taylor & Francis this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-11-10 with Political Science categories.

Changes in Jihadi Discourse in the Wake of the "Islamic State" explores how the transnational jihadi discourse changed with the development of the "Islamic State" terrorist group and resulted in the fragmentation of the jihadi movement. From the Middle East, through Africa to South East Asia, today’s jihadi movement is more fragmented than ever. Al-Qaida and the "Islamic State" compete not only with each other but also with local jihadi groups. Despite the fact that, in the wake of the "Islamic State", international jihadi groups are in fierce competition for supporters, little has been said on how the process of competition as well as external events changed the ideology of these groups and the topics relevant to them. Countering dominant research focusing on the differences between jihadi strains, this book explores how the appearance and temporary strength of the "Islamic State" changed the topics and talking points of other jihadi actors, such as al-Qaida. By analyzing primary sources in Arabic and English, the author sheds light on the inner- and inter-jihadi discourse and its development over the years. The book does not simply describe changes in topics; it traces these changes quantitatively and relates them to external events. This book is aimed at academics, researchers, and postgraduate students interested in political science, security studies, jihadism, jihadi discourse, al-Qaida, "Islamic State", and Salafism, as well as practitioners and decision-makers in government agencies who wish to understand how transnational jihadi discourse has developed over the previous two decades.

Islam And Travel In The Middle Ages written by Houari Touati and has been published by University of Chicago Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-08 with History categories.

In the Middle Ages, Muslim travelers embarked on a rihla, or world tour, as surveyors, emissaries, and educators. On these journeys, voyagers not only interacted with foreign cultures—touring Greek civilization, exploring the Middle East and North Africa, and seeing parts of Europe—they also established both philosophical and geographic boundaries between the faithful and the heathen. These voyages thus gave the Islamic world, which at the time extended from the Maghreb to the Indus Valley, a coherent identity. Islam and Travel in the Middle Ages assesses both the religious and philosophical aspects of travel, as well as the economic and cultural conditions that made the rihla possible. Houari Touati tracks the compilers of the hadith who culled oral traditions linked to the prophet, the linguists and lexicologists who journeyed to the desert to learn Bedouin Arabic, the geographers who mapped the Muslim world, and the students who ventured to study with holy men and scholars. Travel, with its costs, discomforts, and dangers, emerges in this study as both a means of spiritual growth and a metaphor for progress. Touati’s book will interest a broad range of scholars in history, literature, and anthropology.
