An application from Caleb Brown to be restored to membership and the same from Thomas Pease on behalf of himself and three children, two applications from Friends under convincement were concluded to be read, they having been some time under consideration. Fri., April 21.--Attended a public meeting in the Methodist Chapel to oppose Sir J as. Grame's Factory Bill; dissenters of every denomination were present and some of each denomination except Romanists took a part with great cordiality and unanimity. Extremely unjust and oppressively unconstitutional as the Bill is, I hail its production with great pleasure as it has given a tone and unison to the dissenting interest which it had not before attained to and from which I believe beneficial results will be seen. Tues., April 25.--At Ayton School Committee with Louise Seebohm.... Cousins Isaac Wilson and his two sons John and Isaac here (Middlesbrough) on their troublesome pottery concerns, f in which they have got deeply involved, and my beloved son Joseph by his over kindness has not only sustained grievous loss, but great perplexity from the reviling of some who owe him the greatest gratitude. This Thomas Pease would be Thomas Pease, bom 1786, and his children, Edward Thomas Pease, born 1827, Margaret t a Selfe Pease, born 1828, and Martha Pease, born 1831. f This Middlesbrough Pottery was carried on till about 1882 under the name of Isaac Wilson & Co., and had long been the property of my father or his family, though managed by one of the Wilson family. It was continued partly in the hope of becoming a profitable business, partly through the reluctance to throw men out of work, ..

Landmark Cases In The Law Of Tort written by Charles Mitchell and has been published by Bloomsbury Publishing this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010-02-18 with Law categories.

Landmark Cases in the Law of Tort contains thirteen original essays on leading tort cases, ranging from the early nineteenth century to the present day. It is the third volume in a series of collected essays on landmark cases (the previous two volumes having dealt with restitution and contract). The cases examined raise a broad range of important issues across the law of tort, including such diverse areas as acts of state and public nuisance, as well as central questions relating to the tort of negligence. Several of the essays place cases in their historical context in ways that change our understanding of the case's significance. Sometimes the focus is on drawing out previously neglected aspects of cases which have been – undeservedly – assigned minor importance. Other essays explore the judicial methodologies and techniques that worked to shape leading principles of tort law. So much of tort law turns on cases, and there are so many cases, that all but the most recent decisions have a tendency to become reduced to terse propositions of law, so as to keep the subject manageable. This collection shows how important it is, despite the constant temptation to compression, not to lose sight of the contexts and nuances which qualify and illuminate so many leading authorities.

Forgotten Children written by Linda A. Pollock and has been published by Cambridge University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1983-11-24 with Family & Relationships categories.

'The history of childhood is an area so full of errors, distortion and misinterpretation that I thought it vital, if progress were to be made, to supply a clear review of the information on childhood contained in such sources as diaries and autobiographies.' Dr Pollock's statement in her Preface will startle readers who have not questioned the validity of recent theories on the evolution of childhood and the treatment of children, theories which see a movement from a situation where the concept of childhood was almost absent, and children were cruelly treated, to our present western recognition that children are different and should be treated with love and affection. Linda examines this thesis particularly through the close and careful analysis of some hundreds of English and American primary sources. Through these sources, she has been able to reconstruct, probably for the first time, a genuine picture of childhood in the past, and it is a much more humane and optimistic picture than the current stereotype. Her book contains a mass of novel and original material on child-rearing practices and the relations of parents and children, and sets this in the wider framework of developmental psychology, socio-biology and social anthropology. Forgotten Children admirably fulfils the aim of its author. In the face of this scholarly and elegant account of the continuity of parental care, few will now be able to argue for dramatic transformations in the twentieth century.
