The Dinka: A Nilotic of Lifecyle (spelling) was first published in 1972 as The Dinka of Sudan, then again in 1986, as The Dinka of South Sudan(The title did not change then and there was not yet Siuth Sudan). On it's 50th anniverary (spelling) year of being in print, it has been reissued again: as relevant and vital in the 21st century, as any other era. It's author Dr Francis Mading Deng, is one of South Sudan's most revered statesman and scholars, having published over 40 books during a distinguished career(Should we say something about the career, e.g as UN official, diplomat and academic?) . As he is Dinka himself, in the first issue, he described his own culture in rich and fascinating detail - as only an insider could. However by the 1986, the complexities and tradgies (Spelling)of war, amongst other things, had brought significant change(s) to this ancient culture and Dr Deng added his view of these changes to the book. In this issue, the author notes further changes since 1986, in particular the impact of South Sudan gaining it's independence in 2011. He also addresses the dilemma of studying the culture of one ethnic group by a member of that group - in a country that is rich with ethnic diversity. It is a rare and exceptional thing that a book endures for a period of fifty years, let alone a book that is the first of it's kind; one which describes South Sudan's largest ethnic group, authored by a member of that group, updated by that author and now issued for a third time. The Dinka: A Framework of Lifecycle is a master work that stands out for those reasons - and because it is a compelling and intriguing read

Animism Of The Nilotics And Discourses Of Islamic Fundamentalism In Sudan written by Kuel Maluil Jok and has been published by Sidestone Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with History categories.

This book provides a comprehensive analysis of Animism as a religion and a culture of the Nilotic peoples of the Upper River Nile in modern "Southern Sudan". It gives an account of how the animistic ritual performances of the divine chief-priests are strategies in conflict management and resolution. For centuries, the Nilotic peoples have been resisting changes to new religious identities and conservatively remained Animists. Their current interactions with the external world, however, have transformed their religious identities. At present, the Nilotics are Animist-Christians or Animist-Muslims. This does not mean that the converted Nilotics relinquish Animism and become completely assimilated to the new religious prophetic dogmas, instead, they develop compatible religious practices of Animism, Christianity and Islam. New Islamic fundamentalism in Sudan which is sweeping Africa into Islamic religious orthodoxy, where Sharia (Islamic law) is the law of the land, rejects this compatibility and categorises the Nilotics as "heathens" and "apostates". Such characterisation engenders opposing religious categories, with one side urging Sharia and the other for what this study calls "gradable" culture. Kuel Jok is a researcher at the Department of World Cultures at the University of Helsinki. In Sudan, Jok obtained a degree in English Linguistics and Literature and diplomas in Philosophy and Translation. He also studied International Law in Egypt. In Europe, Jok acquired an MA in Sociology from the University of Joensuu, Finland and a PhD in the same field from the University of Helsinki, Finland.

This new and revised edition of A Concise History of South Sudan was revised by Avelino Androga Said, Yosa Wawa, Anne Farren and Anders Breidlid. All chapters were revised and a new chapter on the period from the referendum in 2011 to the period after independence has been added. When the first edition was published in 2010 it was the first history book of its kind in the now South Sudan. This first edition was primarily intended for secondary schools in South Sudan, but the book proved to arouse great interest to many other South Sudanese both inside South Sudan as well as in the diaspora. This was not surprising since it was the first history book on South Sudan to cover, albeit not in detail, the whole history from the origin of mankind to the present. The book may be of interest to students, academicians, politicians and civil society groups such as churches and youth and women's groups. The first, original edition of this book was produced as a result of extensive team work, and the majority of the contributors are South Sudanese citizens, either living in South Sudan or in the diaspora.

A Concise History Of South Sudan written by Anders Breidlid and has been published by African Books Collective this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with History categories.

This textbook in history is primarily intended for secondary schools in South Sudan. The focus is on the history of South Sudan, and is in this sense a pioneer work since it is the country's first secondary school book dealing primarily with the history of the South. Even though the focus is on South Sudan its history cannot be interpreted in a vacuum, and particularly North-South relations are discussed extensively in the book. Secondary school students in Sudan have either studied the history of Kenya and Uganda, or the history of North Sudan since no history book for South Sudan has existed. The book may also be of interest to academics, politicians, historians and college and university students as well civil society groups such as churches, youth and women's groups.
