This bibliographic survey of American writings on the problems of displaced persons was prepared by the European Affairs Division of the Library of Congress. The bibliography is restricted to official documents, books, pamphlets, and some magazines. The bibliography is divided into nine sections. I- the old problem, uprooted people in search of a home. II- the displaced persons problem: general surveys; special phases, 1943-1947 (Intergovernmental Committee on Refugees, Supreme Headquarters of Allied Expeditionary Forces, UNRRA), 1947-1950 (International Refugee Organization and its Preparatory Commission); role of voluntary agencies, particular problems of Jewish displaced persons. III- displaced persons in and around centers in Europe: conditions and compositions of DP population; centers for ethnic groups; special Jewish camps; children. IV- emigration: to Palestine; to other countries except USA; hard core cases, including persons with limited resettlement possibilities. V- immigration to the United States: general; legislation. VI- resettlement in the United States: refugees before and during the War; settlement of DP immigrants; work of governmental and non-governmental agencies. VII- related problems: expellees and infiltrees; other European refugee groups. VIII- official documents of international bodies: IGC and UNRRA; IRO and reports in UN Bulletin. IX- official documents of the United States: by the US military; legislation.
