"The Theory of Business Enterprise" is a seminal work by Thorstein Veblen, an American economist and sociologist. The book was first published in 1904 and is considered one of Veblen's most significant contributions to economic thought. In this work, Veblen explores the relationship between business practices and economic theory, offering a critical analysis of the capitalist system. Key aspects of "The Theory of Business Enterprise" include: Concept of Business Enterprise: Veblen examines the nature and functioning of business enterprises within a capitalist framework. He explores how these enterprises operate and exert influence on economic activities. Role of Industrial Evolution: Veblen considers the impact of industrial evolution on the economic structure. He discusses the transformation from a pre-industrial society to an industrial one and how this shift affects business dynamics. Institutions and Social Structure: The book emphasizes the role of institutions and social structures in shaping economic behavior. Veblen critiques the traditional neoclassical economic theories that neglect the sociological and institutional dimensions of economic activity. Conspicuous Consumption and Leisure Class: Veblen introduces concepts such as "conspicuous consumption" and the "leisure class" in this book, ideas that he had previously explored in his earlier work, "The Theory of the Leisure Class" (1899). These concepts highlight how social status and prestige influence economic behavior. Predatory Practices and Business Strategy: Veblen delves into the predatory practices of business and how competitive strategies can sometimes lead to wasteful and non-productive outcomes. He critiques the traditional view that business practices are solely driven by rational economic motives. Thorstein Veblen's writing is characterized by a witty and critical style. "The Theory of Business Enterprise" reflects his broader intellectual project of integrating economic analysis with sociological and institutional considerations. Veblen's work has influenced subsequent generations of economists and sociologists, contributing to the development of institutional economics and the understanding of the social aspects of economic systems.

This book consists of two titles: Business Economics - Business economics encompasses various aspects essential for understanding how businesses operate within economic environments. Here's an expanded overview: Microeconomic Principles: Business economics heavily relies on microeconomic principles to analyze individual components of the economy, such as consumer behavior, production decisions, and market interactions. Understanding concepts like supply, demand, elasticity, and consumer preferences helps businesses make informed decisions. Market Analysis: Businesses need to analyze markets to identify opportunities and threats. This involves studying market structures (perfect competition, monopolistic competition, oligopoly, monopoly) to determine pricing strategies, market share, and competitive advantages. Cost Analysis: Cost analysis is crucial for businesses to optimize production and maximize profits. Business economics examines various cost concepts, including fixed costs, variable costs, marginal costs, and average costs, to make decisions regarding pricing, production levels, and cost-cutting measures. Micro Economics - Microeconomics is a branch of economics that focuses on the behavior of individuals and firms in making decisions regarding the allocation of limited resources. It typically deals with the interactions between buyers and sellers and the factors that influence their decisions. Microeconomics is a critical branch of economics that focuses on the decisions and behaviors of individual agents, including consumers, households, firms, and industries. It analyzes how these agents allocate their limited resources to maximize utility and profit, and how these decisions shape market outcomes. The scope of microeconomics is vast, encompassing various theories, models, and applications that provide a detailed understanding of economic activities at a granular level.

Family Business And Regional Development written by Rodrigo Basco and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2020 with Family-owned business enterprises categories.

"This book explores the relationship between families, firms, and regions and the extent to which these relationships contribute to regional economic and social development. Although family business participation in economic activities has been a common phenomenon since pre-industrial societies, and its importance has evolved throughout time and across spatial contexts, the book suggests that these factors have often been neglected in family business and regional studies. Taking this research gap into account, the book aims to deepen our understanding of the role family firms play in the regional economy. In particular, it explores two seldom studied questions. Firstly, what role do family firms play in regional development? Secondly, how do formal and informal regional contexts shape family firm operations and performance? This book presents a model of "regional familiness" and uses themes such as productivity, networks and competitiveness to shed new light on family businesses. Moreover, it evaluates the juxtaposition and cross-fertilisation between family business and regional studies to encourage the cross-fertilisation of ideas, theories, and research methods between the two fields. Bringing together leading experts in entrepreneurship, regional economics and economic geography, this book will be valuable reading for advanced students, researchers and policymakers interested in family firms, regional studies and economic geography"--

The second part focuses on EU law and contains contributions that assess the EU’s approach to occupied territories and the extent to which this approach comports with the EU’s obligations under international law; contributions providing an in-depth assessment of the case-law of the CJEU on occupied territories; as well as contributions pertaining to the political considerations that may influence the legal framing of questions pertaining to occupied territories. The final part focuses on the business and human rights perspective, with chapters on investment arbitration as a means for holding the occupant accountable for its conduct towards foreign investments and investors; on the role and impact of the soft law framework governing corporate activity (such as the UN Guiding Principles) on business involvement with occupied territories; as well as a final case study on the dispute involving Israeli football activity in settlements located in the OPT and the legal responsibility of FIFA in this regard. The importance of entrepreneurship for achieving economic growth in contemporary economies is widely recognized, both by policy makers and economists. It is deeply embedded in the current European policy approach that the creativity and independence of entrepreneurs contribute to higher levels of economic activity. Indeed, according to the European Commission (2003, p. 9), "The challenge for the European Union is to identify the key factors for building a climate in which entrepreneurial initiative and business activities can thrive. Policy measures should seek to boost the Union's levels of entrepreneurship, adopting the most appropriate approach for producing more entrepreneurs and for getting more firms to grow. " Audretsch (2003, p. 5) states that "Entrepreneurship has become the engine of economic and social development throughout the world. " The relation between entrepreneurship and economic growth is embedded in several strands of the economic literature. A first strand of literature involves the general understanding of the role of entrepreneurship in the modern economy. Seminal contributions were made by Schumpeter (1934), Knight (1921) and Kirzner (1973). These economists stress different aspects of the role of the entrepreneur. While Schumpeter stresses the innovating aspect, Knight stresses the risk assuming aspect. Kirzner, finally, stresses the role of the entrepreneur in leading markets to equilibrium. Acs (1992) discusses the contribution of small firms in modern economies.
