"The purpose of this project is to determine the benefits of Laughter Yoga on elderly with dementia. As dementia progresses, a person loses the ability to understand and comprehend humor and, therefore, misses out on the benefits of laughter. Laughter provides many physical and mental benefits, including reducing stress, relieving pain, and improving blood circulation. The research consisted of Laughter Yoga sessions being lead in three memory care facilities once a week for three weeks. After the three weeks interviews were conducted with participants who were facility activities personal and other facility staff. The interview consisted of questions to identify any changes in mood and behavior among the residents who participated in the Laughter Yoga sessions. Key findings of the study conclude that though elderly with dementia no longer comprehend humor, they can receive all the benefits of laughter by doing Laughter Yoga."--leaf 4.

This book is a review of recent literature on yoga research. First, the review covers the physiological effects of yoga on heartrate and blood pressure followed by the physical effects on balance and flexibility, muscle strength, weight loss and sexual function. Psychological problems that are affected by yoga are then summarized including anxiety, posttraumatic stress disorder and depression, as well as physical conditions including pain syndromes, cardiovascular, autoimmune and immune conditions. Finally, separate sections are devoted to yoga effects on pregnancy, children and adolescents and the aging. Potential underlying mechanisms are proposed including the stimulation of pressure receptors leading to enhanced vagal activity and reduced cortisol. The reduction in that stress hormone may, in turn, contribute to several positive effects including enhanced immune function and lower prematurity rates.

Ha written by Scott Weems and has been published by Hachette UK this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2014-03-04 with Psychology categories.

An entertaining tour of the science of humor and laughter Humor, like pornography, is famously difficult to define. We know it when we see it, but is there a way to figure out what we really find funny -- and why? In this fascinating investigation into the science of humor and laughter, cognitive neuroscientist Scott Weems uncovers what's happening in our heads when we giggle, guffaw, or double over with laughter. While we typically think of humor in terms of jokes or comic timing, in Ha! Weems proposes a provocative new model. Humor arises from inner conflict in the brain, he argues, and is part of a larger desire to comprehend a complex world. Showing that the delight that comes with "getting" a punchline is closely related to the joy that accompanies the insight to solve a difficult problem, Weems explores why surprise is such an important element in humor, why computers are terrible at recognizing what's funny, and why it takes so long for a tragedy to become acceptable comedic fodder. From the role of insult jokes to the benefit of laughing for our immune system, Ha! reveals why humor is so idiosyncratic, and why how-to books alone will never help us become funnier people. Packed with the latest research, illuminating anecdotes, and even a few jokes, Ha! lifts the curtain on this most human of qualities. From the origins of humor in our brains to its life on the standup comedy circuit, this book offers a delightful tour of why humor is so important to our daily lives.
