Power Paragraphs written by Chris Robinson and has been published by Christine Robinson this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 1997-07 with English language categories.

Power Paragraphs is a writing workbook that uses a simple and memorable analogy: that the parts of an essay are like the parts of a sandwich. The "bread" at the top and bottom represents the main idea; the "meat" of the essay is the topic sentences; the "lettuce" develops with supporting ideas; the "mayo" and "mustard" are transitional elements. Add a "garnish" at the top for an interest statement and your sandwich is complete, delicious, satisfying, and easy to read and understand. The book is ideal for writers at all levels because, in one memorable picture, the organizational pattern of any piece of writing can be easily stated and easily understood. Use this book to improve your personal communications or in classes for English language speakers at any level.

Humans’ first attempts to record their thoughts resulted in images painted in the decorated caves throughout Europe, known as Upper Paleolithic Art. As humans developed written alphabets to record their thoughts in words, the images they painted and the words they wrote competed for attention. As the “Sister Arts” tradition attests, words and pictures have developed along distinct, though related, lines. With the rise of New Media, however, the innovative inter-animation of words and pictures in the screen space of the computer deserves – and requires – artists and designers and rhetoricians to take a fresh look at the complexities of human communication, particularly the way in which words and pictures share commonalities. The range of image-texts, from cave to computer, from palimpsests to pixels, demands critical attention from modern designers who create innovative image-texts for New Media. Eloquent Design: Essays on the Rhetorics of Vision explores ancient image-making as a basis for understanding the modern uses of image-texts in New Media. Eloquent Design also considers the current state of imaginative design from the Sister Arts tradition to Gestalt theories of vision to social semiotics of image-texts. Moreover, Eloquent Design proposes a generative method for creating image-texts, a technique called “Rhetorical Vision.” Applications of the generative mode of Rhetorical Vision give rise to the innovative designs of palimpsests and experimental modes of writing, such as creative nonfiction. Essays in Eloquent Design outline a method for teaching Rhetorical Vision as the inter-animation of words and pictures.

The Eloquent Artist written by Thomas DaCosta Kaufmann and has been published by Pindar Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2004 with Architecture categories.

This volume presents a selection of studies written during the past decades by Professor DaCosta Kaufmann on a variety of topics concerning the history of painting, sculpture, art theory, collecting, and architecture. It includes several of his ground-breaking essays interpreting art at the Prague court of Rudolf II (1576-1512). However, the collection represents other aspects of the broad range of his interests as well: the papers gathered here range through Central Europe from the sixteenth to the early nineteenth century. In addition to essays on Rudolfine Prague, another complex of papers deals with art at other courts in Salzburg, Germany, the Low Countries, and Denmark in the early seventeenth century, and with art during the time of the Thirty Years' War. Two papers consider important developments in the history of collecting. Five essays offer interpretations of architecture (and sculpture) in Bohemia, Germany, Austria and Poland during the eighteenth and early nineteenth century. While concentrating on the visual arts and architecture of Central Europe, many of these essays engage with broader issues of cultural history. Many of them also offer approaches which will be of more general methodological interest.

The Eloquent Blood written by Manon Hedenborg White and has been published by Oxford University Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2019-10-14 with Religion categories.

In the conventional dichotomy of chaste, pure Madonna and libidinous whore, the former has usually been viewed as the ideal form of femininity. However, there is a modern religious movement in which the negative stereotype of the harlot is inverted and exalted. The Eloquent Blood focuses on the changing construction of femininity and feminine sexuality in interpretations of the goddess Babalon. A central deity in Thelema, the religion founded by the notorious British occultist Aleister Crowley (1875-1947), Babalon is based on Crowley's favorable reinterpretation of the biblical Whore of Babylon, and is associated with liberated female sexuality and the spiritual ideal of passionate union with existence. Analyzing historical and contemporary written sources, qualitative interviews, and ethnographic fieldwork in the Anglo-American esoteric milieu, the study traces interpretations of Babalon from the works of Crowley and some of his key disciples--including the rocket scientist John "Jack" Whiteside Parsons, and the enigmatic British occultist Kenneth Grant--until the present. From the 1990s onwards, this study shows, female and LGBTQ esotericists have challenged historical interpretations of Babalon, drawing on feminist and queer thought and conceptualizing femininity in new ways. Tracing the trajectory of a particular gendered symbol from the fin-de-siècle until today, Manon Hedenborg White explores the changing role of women in Western esotericism, and shows how evolving constructions of gender have shaped the development of esotericism. Combining research on historical and contemporary Western esotericism with feminist and queer theory, the book sheds new light on the ways in which esoteric movements and systems of thought have developed over time in relation to political movements.

Mary Grace Soccio. My writing could not please this kindhearted woman, no matter how hard I tried. Although Gifed and Talented seventh-grade math posed no problem for me, the same was not true for Mrs. Soccio’s English class. I was frustrated that my frst assignment only netted me a C. I worked harder, making re- sion afer revision, a concept I had never really put much faith in before. At last, I produced an essay that seemed the apex of what I was capable of wr- ing. Although the topic of that essay is now lost to my memory, the grade I received was not: a B?. “Te best I could do was a B??” Te realization sank in that maybe I was not such a good writer. In those days, my youthful hubris did not understand abouc t apacity bui- ing. In other words, being challenged would result in my intellectual growth— an academic restatement of Nietzsche’s “What does not destroy me, makes me stronger.” Consequently, I asked to be withdrawn from Gifed and Talented English in the eighth grade.

T S Eliot And The Essay written by George Douglas Atkins and has been published by this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with categories.

G. Douglas Atkins here offers an original consideration of T. S. Eliot's essay as a form of embodied thinking. A combination of literature and philosophy, the genre of the essay holds within itself a great tension--that between truth and creative prose. And, as Atkins explains, these conflicting forces of truth and creativity exist not only within the literary format itself but also within the writers and their relationships with the genre, making essay writing a wonderfully enriching "impure art." Exploring the similarities between Eliot's prose and poetry with the art of essay writing, Atkins discovers remarkably similar patterns of Incarnational thinking that emerge in each. In so doing, he establishes for the first time the essayistic nature of the great poem Four Quartets and provides an eloquent reflection on how the essay in all its impurity functions as Incarnational art, an embodiment of truth.
