Chase Madison had a tough childhood. Raised in a broken home and struggling with undiagnosed ADHD, he was constantly in trouble. Life didn't get much better as an adult-jailed, abandoned by family and friends, and fired from his job. But then he meets the Caelans. They look like and act like us, but they are not from this planet. Completely peaceful, they've lived here for years, hiding in plain sight by using a mental ability called 'psy' to maintain their secret identity. But after more than 50 years of peace, anger has begun to infect the Caelans-like a sickness-forcing all 939 to be quarantined here. And when they meet Chase, they discover that their psy does not work on him. His immunity to their power presents a serious security risk. Join Chase on the adventure of his life as he makes wondrous discoveries, improbable friends, terrifying enemies, finds unexpected love, and begins to believe in himself-for the first time in his life.

This collection examines the effects of slavery and emancipation on race, class and gender in societies of the American South, the Caribbean, Latin America and West Africa. The contributors discuss what slavery has to teach us about patterns of adjustment and change, black identity and the extent to which enslaved peoples succeeded in creating a dynamic world of interaction between the Americas. They examine how emancipation was defined, how it affected attitudes towards slavery, patterns of labour usage and relationships between workers as well as between workers and their former owners.

In The Emancipation Circuit Thulani Davis provides a sweeping rethinking of Reconstruction by tracing how the four million people newly freed from bondage created political organizations and connections that mobilized communities across the South. Drawing on the practices of community they developed while enslaved, freedpeople built new settlements and created a network of circuits through which they imagined, enacted, and defended freedom. This interdisciplinary history shows that these circuits linked rural and urban organizations, labor struggles, and political culture with news, strategies, education, and mutual aid. Mapping the emancipation circuits, Davis shows the geography of ideas of freedom---circulating on shipping routes, via army maneuvers, and with itinerant activists---that became the basis for the first mass Black political movement for equal citizenship in the United States. In this work, she reconfigures understandings of the evolution of southern Black political agendas while outlining the origins of the enduring Black freedom struggle from the Jim Crow era to the present.

"Emancipation critically interrogates the impact of sculpture in public life, centering around ideas of agency and emancipation in historical and contemporary expression. The fulcrum of the book will be the Amon Carter Museum of American Art's copy of John Quincy Adams Ward's bronze sculpture The Freedman (1863). Unlike conventional depictions of enslaved African Americans at this time, which showed them as powerless, this heroic figure has broken his chains. The catalogue begins with an introduction to Civil War-era works contextualizing The Freedman, then examines the work of six contemporary Black artists whose respective practices engage the mediums of sculpture and installation connected to themes of freedom or imprisonment, the long legacy of the Civil War in the United States, body, and personhood. Featuring the work of Sadie Barnette, Maya Freelon, Hugh Hayden, Letitia Huckaby, Jeffrey Meris, and Sable Elyse Smith, as well as a reprinted short story by N.K. Jemisin, Emancipation brings contemporary issues of racial inequities, the legacy of war and conflict, and issues of freedom-or lack thereof-for Black Americans to the fore"--

Towards The Emancipation Of Patients written by Charlotte Williamson and has been published by Policy Press this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2010 with Medical care categories.

Despite a policy focus on involving patients in health care and increasing patient autonomy, much covert coercion of patients takes place in everyday healthcare. This book, by a leading patient activist, examines for the first time how the patient movement, which works to improve the quality of healthcare, can actually be considered an emancipation movement when led by its radical elements. In this highly original book the author argues that radical patient groups and individual activists who repeatedly challenge or oppose some standards in healthcare, can be seen as working in the direction of freeing patients from coercion and from its associated injustice and inequality. Combining new academic theory with rich empirical evidence, the book explains how looking at healthcare from an emancipatory perspective could improve its quality as patients experience it. It will appeal to health professionals, managers, patient activists, policy makers and others concerned with the quality of healthcare.
