Beauty and the End of Art shows how a resurgence of interest in beauty and a sense of ending in Western art are challenging us to rethink art, beauty and their relationship. By arguing that Wittgenstein's later work and contemporary theory of perception offer just what we need for a unified approach to art and beauty, Sonia Sedivy provides new answers to these contemporary challenges. These new accounts also provide support for the Wittgensteinian realism and theory of perception that make them possible. Wittgenstein's subtle form of realism explains artworks in terms of norm governed practices that have their own varied constitutive norms and values. Wittgensteinian realism also suggests that diverse beauties become available and compelling in different cultural eras and bring a shared 'higher-order' value into view. With this framework in place, Sedivy argues that perception is a form of engagement with the world that draws on our conceptual capacities. This approach explains how perceptual experience and the perceptible presence of the world are of value, helping to account for the diversity of beauties that are available in different historical contexts and why the many faces of beauty allow us to experience the value of the world's perceptible presence. Carefully examining contemporary debates about art, aesthetics and perception, Beauty and the End of Art presents an original approach. Insights from such diverse thinkers as Immanuel Kant, Hans-Georg Gadamer and Arthur Danto, Alexander Nehamas, Elaine Scarry and Dave Hickey are woven together to reveal how they make good sense if we bring contemporary theory of perception and Wittgensteinian realism into the conversation.

Today, there is a lot of discussion in Christian circles about brokenness. Most of the discussion views it as a negative to be overcome through Christ. The Beauty of the End-Time Bride: Brokenness takes a very different approach. Psalm 51:17 says there is a brokenness that God desires from you as a sacrifice, namely a broken heart and spirit. This is not damaging, but a voluntarily embraced humility. However, it is humility applied to a radical degree. It encompasses issues in your life that you might not have known required humility. Through reading this book, you will examine in depth little-explored issues that affect how you live a God-pleasing life. When was the last time you questioned how the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil governs your life today? You will then see how this mostly overlooked spiritual truth empowers deeper exploration of well-known themes like dying to the flesh. Right now, if this brokenness talk sounds like a downer, don’t worry. You can discover how it’s the key to unlocking the full potential of the Bible’s wonderful promises to us. Catch the vision of a much bigger reality to Christian life than we have previously known.

Holy Beauty written by Chrysostomos A. Stamoulis and has been published by James Clarke & Company this book supported file pdf, txt, epub, kindle and other format this book has been release on 2022-08-25 with Religion categories.

"The philosophical and theological study of aesthetics has a long and rich history, stretching back to Platos identification of ultimate goodness and beauty, together representing the eternal form. Recent trends in aesthetic theory, however, characterised by a focus on the beautiful at the expense of the good, have made it an object of suspicion in the Orthodox Church. In its place, Greek theologians have sought to emphasise philokalia as a truer theological discipline. Seeking to reverse this trend, Chrysostomos Stamoulis brings into conversation a plethora of voices, from Church fathers to contemporary poets, and from a Marxist political theorist to a literary critic. Out of this dialogue, Stamoulis builds a model for the re-appropriation of Orthodoxys patristic and Byzantine past that is no longer defined in antithesis to the Western present. The openness he proposes allows us to perceive afresh the world shot through with divinity, if only we can lift our gaze to see it. Dismantling the false dichotomy, philokalia or aesthetics, is the first step."

Once upon a time, I thought love was a fairytale. My prince was a Beast with blood on his hands and ice in his veins. My family offered to save me. The only price: leaving the tattered pieces of my heart behind. Our love was irrational. Cruel. Unforgiving. Nothing like the storybooks said it should be-but it was perfect. The longer we were apart, the more I lost myself. He was vicious and domineering, but I craved the submission. Together we were destructive, but I was addicted to the devastation. Still, I thought titles mattered. To my family I was princess, and to the Beast I was slave. I was too nave to understand that even though he'd been my captor, he'd broken the shackles on my soul.Once upon a time, I thought love meant happily ever after. Now I know better.
